

Hong Kong government in its policy statement (1998) and its long term strategy place strong emphasis upon developing high-value adding industry which turns into a driving force for innovative design, value engineering and manufacturing. This together with a huge mechanical and manufacturing industry in mainland China as an essential base which provides sufficient resources and backs up Hong Kong's development. Industry itself also aware of the strong needs for rebuilding a sound local industry and its significance towards Hong Kong's economy. The synergetic effects can be realised from this government push and industry pull.
Over the last decade, Hong Kong has developed worldwide network for "Design and Manufacture". It demands engineers with balanced technical knowledge and management skills to coordinate engineering activities both locally and globally. This trend will continue together with the new government emphasis, there will be a significant grow in demand for mechanical & manufacturing engineers. Graduates from EMMD degree programmes are demanded by local industry and mainland China. The broad knowledge acquainted by our EMMD graduates will enable them to efficiently manage manpower, money and machinery/manufacturing processes.
