Correspondence tuition and telephone tutoring are the central and continuing teaching processes in the OUHK system. Your course tutor is responsible for helping you to understand and learn from the course materials and the assignments. He/she does this by providing comments on your tutor-marked assignments and assessing them. Do not hesitate to contact your tutor by telephone if you encounter any difficulties in your studies.
There is also face-to-face tuition. You will be able to meet your tutor and classmates at the regular tutorial sessions. Tutors will be able to advise you on a wide range of matters from any study difficulties you may experience to your future course choices.
Apart from these, many courses include a number of voluntary day schools. However, in some courses, you will have to participate satisfactorily in different forms of compulsory day schools or tutorials in order to pass the course. If you cannot complete the day school attendance requirements for your course before the examination date due to illness or forced absence from Hong Kong, you may use Form T-DD (Application for Deferment of Compulsory Dayschool Attendance) to apply for deferment of your dayschool attendance.
For some science and computing courses, there may also be laboratory sessions. Laboratory work will be an important part of your studies.
Normally, face-to-face tuition sessions follow tutorial schedules sent
to students at the beginning of each semester. Under adverse weather conditions,
special
arrangements will be made. Students should pay attention to the
announcements made by the OUHK on the radio and television for details.
General public announcements from the Education Department are not applicable
to the OUHK courses.
