Maximum Registration Value

Each course carries a registration value which is different from credit, and is used to indicate the study load per semester.  A total registration value of 20 means that you need to study at about the normal rate for a full-time student.  The following formula shows how the registration value is calculated:

Registration value = credit value / number of semester it takes to complete the course

The maximum registration value which a student can take in a semester differs for degree/sub-degree courses and postgraduate courses.

Degree/Sub-degree courses

New students will not be offered courses with a total registration value of more than 15 in the first semester.   For continuing students, the maximum registration value is 30.

Prior approval is required from the Dean of the School concerned in order to exceed these limits.

Postgraduate courses

Any students who apply for courses at postgraduate level for the first time will only be allocated postgraduate courses with a maximum registration value of 15 in that semester.  If you wish to study postgraduate courses with a registration value of more than 15, you need to indicate this in a letter to seek the Dean's approval and enclose it with your application.

After the first semester, you will be allowed to enrol for a maximum registration value of 30 at any one time.
