Twelve members of the Research Grants Council (RGC) visited the OUHK on 25 August to assess the University's research infrastructure and capability. Led by Prof. Kenneth Young, Chairman of the RGC, the group was briefed upon arrival by President Prof. Tam Sheung-wai about the University's mission and financial model and their implications on the development of research. This was then followed by a talk on the University's research policy and strategies by Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede, Director of the Centre for Research in Distance and Adult Learning. The visitors also had a chance to see some poster presentations of a few exemplar research projects and meet some of the University's staff who actively engage in research. 'The RGC visit gave us an opportunity to demonstrate that, despite the lack of adequate research funding, the OUHK possesses both the capability and appropriate infrastructure to sustain properly funded research projects alongside our sister universities in Hong Kong,' said Prof. Tam. |
