The student course evaluation exercise for 29 courses examined in February 1999 has been completed. Among the 3361 questionnaires sent out, 1187 were returned, representing a response rate of 35 per cent, the highest in recent years. The questionnaire included 27 structured questions on study materials, student support, assignments, tutorials/day schools/surgeries and examinations, as well as three open-ended questions for students to comment on the course and suggest improvements. Dr Bruce Taylor, Quality Assurance Coordinator, said, 'This survey continues to show that OUHK students are pleased with the overall educational experience that the University offers. Student respondents have consistently praised the University's course materials, its mechanisms for supporting students in their learning, the work of tutors and the validity of assessment procedures. They describe their learning experiences as rigorous, intensive and well capable of meeting their needs. However, there is a concern among some students that OUHK courses try to cover too much material. It might be worthwhile to undertake an updated survey of students concerning their study habits and the amount of time they are able to spare for their studies.' |
