President Prof. Tam Sheung-wai spoke on distance and open education at the HKU Convocation Luncheon Talk on 30 April.

More than 310 part-time OUHK tutors attended a seminar on 'Web-based instruction' on 30 April, 1999. The seminar was organized by the University's Human Resources Unit in line with the launch, in the same month, of nine online courses using WebCT as a common platform.

Prof. Leung Chun-ming, Director of Technology Development, kicked off the seminar with a brief introduction on 'Learning in a networked world'. This was followed by an explanation of the WebCT Online Learning Environment by Linda Chow, Publishing Manager of the Educational Technology and Publishing Unit. Afterwards, Dr Chung Siu-leung, Associate Professor, and John Mak, Assistant Professor, both of the School of Business and Administration, shared their experiences of online instruction with the audience.
