The OUHK
has been conferred the Prize of Excellence for Institutions by the International
Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) for 1999. President Prof.
Tam Sheung-wai received the award on behalf of the University during the
opening ceremony of the 19th ICDE World Conference in Vienna, Austria
from 20Ð24 June. According to the ICDE Executive Com-mittee, the Prize
was awarded to an institution for very significant contributions to the
international community of open and distance learning, across cultural
and linguistic barriers, particularly in terms of innovation and leadership.
