-Prevention of Swine Flu30/04/2009

Dear Student,

In view of outbreaks of human infection of Swine Influenza H1N1 in Mexico and the United States, the Serious Response Level under the Government’s Preparedness Plan for Influenza Pandemic was activated on 26 April 2009.  The Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health alerted the public that Human Swine Influenza may have the chance to be spread in Hong Kong.

The symptoms and mode of transmission of swine influenza in people are expected to be similar to regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing.

The University is a collective assembly place.  To prevent any possible outbreak of influenza, according to the advice from the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, students with fever and respiratory symptoms are strongly advised not to attend lessons until recovery.

Examinations for full-time programmes are now in progress.  If you have influenza symptoms, please do not attend the examination.  You should consult your family doctor and take rest at home.  Please submit the ‘application for examination deferment’ form, together with a medical certificate obtained on the exam date, to the College of Full-time Studies within 7 days after the date of the examination.  The University will arrange supplementary examination at a later date for student whose application is approved. Students who are found in the Examination Centre to have fever and/or other influenza symptoms may be barred from sitting for the examinations.

The University has already strengthened the cleaning and disinfection arrangements on campus.  We would appeal for your co-operation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment in the University and. paying attention to personal hygiene.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 2768-6658.
