Full Time Student Network Storage Service Guide

 

What is MyDrive ?

MyDrive is a network file storage service for full time degree programmes students. Students can access their files in the PC laboratory and anywhere with an Internet service.

 

What is the recommended software to use MyDrive ?

-         Microsoft Windows 7 or higher

-         Microsoft Internet Explorer 11

-         Anti-virus software

 

Who can use the MyDrive service ?

All full time degree programmes students are eligible to use MyDrive.  Alumni, DL students and students of pre-associate degree and Yi Jin project would not be included for this service.

 

What is the default disk quota ?

 The default disk quota is 1 GB.

Q1.  How do I access the MyDrive service outside OU campus?   

         A. Networked drive access : with Windows 7 or above

           -   It is the preferrable access method, since it is independent of the Internet Explorer version. 

     -      After successfully login Windows OS, you need to perform drive mapping operation for Mydrive access.

     -   Start => Computer

 

      

 

  -         Start to map network drive as shown below

 

     

 

   -         Enter https://mydrive.ouhk.edu.hk/yourstudentid

        (refer below)

 

      

 

    -         Enter username & password in the boxes below

 

       

 

            mapped_z_drive

 

         -         Click on the mapped network drive, the content of your storage will be displayed for your use.

     B.   Web access

      -    It is an obsolete way of access and is less preferrable.   Some file operations are not supported with this access method.

         -         Launch Internet Explorer

         -    Goto http://www.ouhk.edu.hk/ > Current Students > Communication & Support > Internet Services > MyDrive

 

     Enter email ID , single password and click OK  

 -        Enter email ID, single password and click OK

 -    Click on the Launch MyDrive button below

Q.2.   How do I access the MyDrive service inside OU campus?

          -     This service can be accessed easily if you are entitled users in the PC Lab - full time degree programmes students.

     -         After successfully login Windows 7, a MyDrive icon will be automatically displayed on the Windows Desktop.

 

 

     -         Double click the “MyDrive” icon, the content of your storage will be displayed for your use.

Q3.  How to handle the Networked Drive access probelm for Windows 10 PC ?

        Some windows 10 PC may occassionally experience problem in accessing MyDrive networked drive, the usual symptom is that file(s) cannot be copied to or retrieved from the mydrive storage. The problem is a security feature that may applies to WebDAV shares with some Windows 10 platform.

 

        To fix the probelm, a minor modification in registry setting of your PC is needed. Please follow procedures with extra caution :

Type command regedit in command prompt

  •    Navigate to the following registry key:   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters

  •  In this key, change the value of   BasicAuthLevel to 2  

        registry_change

      You may need to reboot your PC to make the change to take effect.

   -         Login Windows 7 in PC laboratory.

   -         Open the MyDrive network

   -         Move the mouse cursor on the Z: drive and right click, then "Properties",
