Admission Requirements

The following applicants should apply through direct application:
 
1. Applicants who have not joined JUPAS and who wish to apply for year 1 entry to Bachelor’s Degree with Honours programmes. Applicants who only have HKDSE Examination results should apply through JUPAS.
   
2. Applicants who wish to apply for Year 1 entry to Bachelor’s Degree and Higher Diploma programmes.
   
3. Applicants who wish to apply for senior year entry to Bachelor’s Degree with Honours and Bachelor‘s Degree programmes.
   
4. Applicants with non-local qualifications.
 

 Year 1 Entry

 
 For Year 1 entry to Higher Diploma in Nursing Studies (General Health Care/Mental Health Care)  
1.
Applicants with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) qualifications are required to have obtained Level 2 or above in five subjects, including Chinese, English, Mathematics and any two other subjects in Categories A or B*; or
 
2.
Applicants must be holders of a Pre-Associate Degree; or equivalent.
 
*
For Category B — Applied Learning Subjects, applicants are required to have obtained an ‘Attained’ or above result.
 
 
 For Year 1 entry to all Degree programmes
 
 
1.
Applicants with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) qualifications are required to obtain Level 3 or above in Chinese1 and English, as well as Level 2 or above in Mathematics, Liberal Studies and an elective subject2 (or equivalent).
 
 
 
2.
 
Applicants with local qualifications other than HKDSE are required to:
 
  -
Complete Year 1 study of a recognized Associate Degree or Higher Diploma programme; or
 
  -
Obtain Grade E or above in AS Chinese Language & Culture3 and Use of English, and 2 AL / 1 AL plus 2 AS / 4 AS subjects in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (or equivalent).
 
 
 
3.
 
Applicants with non-local qualifications are required to obtain:
 
  - Grade E or above in 2 AL / 1 AL plus 2 AS subjects4  in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) A-Level / International A-Level; or  
  - An overall minimum score of 24 in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma; or  
  - Other equivalent overseas qualifications (as determined by the University).  
  AND All applicants are required to meet the appropriate English language requirements5.  

Senior Year Entry6

 
 
- For holders of Higher Diploma or Associate Degree (or equivalent).
 
 
- Normally, the programme duration is two to three years. Applicants will be considered for admission to different years of the study programme depending on individual academic merits  and other relevant factors.
 
 
- Entry to specific programmes may involve additional requirements. Please refer to the specific programme website.
 
 
Applicants are required to fulfil the English language requirements (see Explanatory Note 5) if the Higher Diploma or Associate Degree (or equivalent) qualifications are not awarded by recognized local institutions.
 
 
 
Explanatory Notes:
 
 
1.
Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) applicants, who have met the specified circumstances announced by the Education Bureau (EDB), can use the following qualifications to replace HKDSE Chinese Language Level 3 to meet the entrance requirement for Chinese Language:
     
 
 
-
HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese: Attained with Distinction  
   
-
GCE (A-Level /AS-Level) Chinese: Grade E or above
   
-
GCE (O-Level)/ GCSE/ IGCSE Chinese: Grade C or above
     
 
2.
HKDSE Category B subjects (Applied Learning), (except ‘Applied Learning Chinese’) with attainment at “Attained” or above; or Category C subjects (Other Languages) with attainment at Grade E or above will be considered as elective subjects.
     
  3. Equivalent qualifications for AS Chinese Language & Culture are:
     
    - Grade E or above in GCE (AL/AS) / HKALE Chinese Literature / HKALE Chinese Language & Literature; or
       
    - Grade C or above in GCE (O-Level) / GCSE / IGCSE; or
       
    - Grade E or above in a language other than Chinese or English in HKCEE. In this case, applicants must have a pass in an additional AL / AS subject to substitute for AS Chinese Language & Culture.
     
  4. English Language and Chinese Language subjects shall not be counted as the subjects for meeting this requirement, except in the cases of the Bachelor of English Language Studies with Honours (BLSEHJ1), Bachelor of Education with Honours in English Language Teaching and Bachelor of English Language Studies with Honours (BEDELSEHJ1) programmes, for which English Language subjects will be counted.
     
 
5.
 Applicants are required to fulfil the English language requirement as follows: 
   
- A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 525 for the paper-based test, 70 for the Internet-based test, or 196 for the computer-based test; or
   
-
An overall Band Score of 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
   
-
Grade E or above in GCE (AL/AS); or
   
-
Grade C or above in GCSE / IGCSE / GCE O-Level English; or
   
-
Grade 4 or above in English in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma; or
   
-
Score of 90 in the Mainland Joint Entrance Examination (JEE); or
   
-
Relevant equivalent qualifications as determined by the University.
