Admission Requirements

The following applicants should apply through direct application:
 
1. Applicants who have not joined JUPAS and who wish to apply for year 1 entry to Bachelor’s Degree with Honours programmes. Local pplicants who only have HKDSE Examination results should apply through JUPAS.
   
2. Applicants who wish to apply for Year 1 entry to Higher Diploma programmes.
   
3. Applicants who wish to apply for senior year entry to Bachelor’s Degree with Honours and Bachelor‘s Degree programmes.
   
4. Applicants with non-local academic qualifications.
   
5. Mature local applicants1.
 

 Year 1 Entry

 
 
 For Year 1 entry to Higher Diploma in Nursing Studies (General Health Care / Mental Health   Care ) under the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions / Sectors (SSSDP)
 
  1.   Applicants with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) qualifications are required to have obtained Level 2 or above in five subjects, including Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and any two other subjects in Categories A or B*; or
       
  2.   Applicants must be holders of one of the following:
a.  A Pre-Associate Degree; or
b.  a Diploma Yi Jin; or
c.  a Diploma of Foundation Studies awarded by the Vocational Training Council (VTC); or
d.  equivalent qualifications.
       
  *   For Category B — Applied Learning Subjects, applicants are required to have obtained an ‘Attained’or above.
 
     
 For Year 1 entry to Bachelor’s Degree with Honours programmes
  1.   Applicants with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) qualifications are required to obtain Level 3 or above in Chinese2 and English, as well as Level 2 or above in Mathematics, Liberal Studies and an elective subject3 (or equivalent).
       
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
2.
 
Applicants with local academic qualifications other than HKDSE are required to:
 
  -
Complete Year 1 study of a recognized Associate Degree or Higher Diploma programme; or
 
  -
Obtain Grade E or above in AS Chinese Language & Culture4 and Use of English, and 2 AL / 1 AL plus 2 AS / 4 AS subjects in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (or equivalent).
 
 
3.
Applicants with non-local academic qualifications are required to obtain:
 
  - Grade E or above in 2 AL / 1 AL plus 2 AS subjects5 in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) AL / International AL; or  
  - An overall minimum score of 24 in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma; or  
  - Other equivalent overseas academic qualifications (as determined by the University).  
 AND All applicants are required to meet the appropriate English language requirements6.  

Senior Year Entry7

 
  For holders of Higher Diploma or Associate Degree (or equivalent).  
  Normally, the programme duration is two to three years. Applicants will be considered for admission to different years of the study programme depending on individual academic merits and other relevant factors.  
  Entry to specific programmes may involve additional requirements. Please refer to the specific programme website.  
  Applicants are required to fulfill the English language requirements (see Explanatory Note 6) if the Higher Diploma or Associate Degree (or equivalent) qualifications are not awarded by recognized local institutions.  
 For Senior Year Entry to Bachelor of Education with Honours in Early Childhood Education (Leadership and Special Educational Needs) programme at Year 3  
 Applicants must be holders of one of the following:
 
 a.   A recognized Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE); or  
 b.  
a Certificate in Early Childhood Education (ECE) as recognized by Education Bureau (EDB) as an ECE teacher training qualification; or
 
 c.   any other equivalent qualifications.  
   
 
Explanatory Notes*:
 
 
1.
Mature local applicants are eligible to apply for admission into the first-year study of an undergraduate programme even if they do not satisfy the stipulated entrance requirements. They must reach the age of 25 by 1 September of the year of admission and be able to demonstrate their aptitude and suitability for study.
     
 
2.
Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) applicants, who have met the specified circumstances as announced by the Education Bureau (EDB), can use the following qualifications to replace HKDSE Chinese Language Level 3 to meet the entrance requirement for Chinese Language:
     
 
 
-
‘Attained’ or above in HKDSE Category B (Applied Learning Chinese); or
-
Grade E or above in GCE (AL / AS / O-Level) Chinese; or
- Grade E or above in GCSE / IGCSE Chinese.

HKDSE Category B subjects (Applied Learning), (except ‘Applied Learning Chinese’) with attainment at “Attained” or above; or Category C subjects (Other Languages) with attainment at Grade E or above will be considered as elective subjects.
     
  4. Equivalent qualifications for AS Chinese Language & Culture are:
     
    - Grade E or above in GCE (AL / AS) Chinese / HKALE Chinese Literature / HKALE Chinese Language & Literature; or
       
    - Grade C or above in GCE (O-Level) Chinese; or
       
    - Grade C or above in GCSE / IGCSE Chinese; or
       
    - Grade E or above in a language other than Chinese or English in HKCEE. In this case, applicants must have a pass in an additional AL / AS subject to substitute for AS Chinese Language & Culture.
     
  5. English Language and Chinese Language subjects shall not be counted as the subjects for meeting this requirement, except in the cases of the Bachelor of English Language Studies with Honours (BLSEHJ1), Bachelor of Education with Honours in English Language Teaching and Bachelor of English Language Studies with Honours (BEDELSEHJ1) programmes, for which English Language subjects will be counted.
     
 
6.
Applicants are required to fulfill the English language requirement as follows: 
   
- A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 525 for the paper-based test, 70 for the Internet-based test, or 196 for the computer-based test; or
   
-
An overall Band Score of 5.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
   
-
Grade E or above in GCE (AL / AS) English; or
   
-
Grade C or above in GCE (O-Level) English; or
   
-
Grade C / Grade 4 or above in GCSE / IGCSE English; or
   
-
Grade 4 or above in English in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma; or
   
-
SAT
  • Pre-March-2016 SAT: Essay score of 8 or above on the SAT Reasoning Test
  • Redesigned SAT (from March 2016): Score 590 or above in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
- Score of 100 or above in English in the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) (Gaokao); or

Relevant equivalent qualifications as determined by the University.
