Ms Hui was born in Hong Kong and received secondary education in St Stephen Girls’ College. She studied social sciences with major in Economics and Management and obtained her Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from The University of Hong Kong in 1978. In view of her interest in the field of information technology which also helped her work in student administration, she took up the postgraduate studies in information technology with the Deakin University of Australia in 1994. To further enrich her knowledge in education management, she studied with the Sheffield University in UK and obtained the Master of Education in 2001.

Academic & Professional Experience

Ms Hui has over 30 years of experience in university administration. Before joining The Open University of Hong Kong in 1997, she has worked for more than 13 years in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and 2 years with the Hong Kong Institute of Education responsible for a wide range of registry services.  Ms Hui has extensive student administration experience in tertiary education sector and is particular conversant with student admissions, assessment and examination, teaching and learning quality assurance and student administrative computer system. She has participated in different joint admission schemes with other institutions for student recruitment over the years and has successfully pioneered together with colleagues from the Information Technology department as the first institution in Hong Kong to adopt the self-implementation approach for the PeopleSoft Campus solution in OUHK.  She also actively participates in Senate and various University high-level committees on academic development, admissions and academic policies and regulations, quality assurance, student computer system development, university management, etc.

Selected Professional & Community Services

  • Sylvia participates in a number of promotion activities for the Southern District of Hong Kong where she lives particularly related to environmental protection and public health which she takes interest in.
