Biography

Dr. Simon Cheung King-Sing graduated from the City University of Hong Kong with a BSc(Hons) and a PhD, both in Computer Science. He continued his study but in Politics and Public Administration in the University of Hong Kong, where he obtained a MPA with Distinction, and received Executive Education in Strategic Management and Corporate Governance from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and Oxford's Said Business School respectively.

A Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist and Chartered IT Professional, Dr. Cheung was admitted as Fellow of the British Computer Society, Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Fellow of the Hong Kong Computer Society, and Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

Dr. Cheung has been the Director of Information Technology in the Open University of Hong Kong since joining in 2010, to oversee the university's IT services and systems. He was the Director of IT Services in SPACE, the University of Hong Kong, and the Associate Head of Registry and IT Services in SCE, the Hong Kong Baptist University. Prior to these, he worked in the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Council of Social Services.

Dr. Cheung is listed in the Who's Who in Science and Engineering.

 

Academic & Professional Experience

Dr. Cheung has been working in the IT profession for many years, mostly with university IT services. He has successfully led a number of large-scale University IT projects, including ERP projects, administrative system projects, process reengineering projects, technology infrastructure projects, e-learning and blended learning projects. Besides professional practices, he was engaged in part-time teaching and course development in Computer Science with the Open University of Hong Kong.
