Guide to using MyOUHK

MyOUHK is a portal that serves as your single entry point for all of the University's online services and content. MyOUHK enables you to:

  1. access all of the University's online services including the OLE and the E-Library by logging in just once;
  2. Personalize your page by creating shortcuts to the content and services you use most (including external Internet resources) and customizing the look of the page; and
  3. open a communication channel to allow the University to send you personalized messages to keep you informed of important and interesting news and events related to your studies.

Note: MyOUHK is only available for OUHK students, alumni, staff and tutors and only in English. To log in to MyOUHK, enter your Password and Username in the "Login to MyOUHK" boxes at the top right-hand corner of the student / alumni / staff / tutor website.

  1. Greetings - You receive a personalized welcome to MyOUHK every time you log in.
  2. Tabs - These tabs help you manage different types of information. You can control both the names of these tabs, and the contents that appear on them.
  3. Channels - Channels provide the basic content elements of MyOUHK; you build up your MyOUHK page by subscribing to various channels, such as Student Announcement, Dictionary, Hong Kong Weather and Bookmark Manager.
  4. Focus a Channel - You can focus on a particular channel by clicking this button.
  5. Minimize a Channel - You can minimize or maximize a particular channel by clicking this button.
  6. Detach a Channel - You can detach a particular channel by clicking this button - that is, the channel will then be shown in a new window.
  7. Remove a Channel - By clicking this button, you can directly remove the particular channel.
  8. Columns - Columns help you organize your page. You can control their width to improve the page layout.
  9. Logout - Click here to logout. You will be advised to close your browser as an added security measure.
  10. Preferences - You can set most MyOUHK features using the controls provided in Preferences.
  11. Reset to default profile - You can discard your personalized settings and return to the latest MyOUHK default profile given by the University.
  12. Learn more - You can click here for several types of help related to using MyOUHK, such as Frequently Asked Questions, What's New here, and so on.

Change the Look and Feel of MyOUHK | Adjust the Column Widths

You can change the look and feel of MyOUHK by selecting different skins:

1. Go to "Preferences":
2. Click "Choose a skin":

3. Choose the skin you want, then click "Apply":

You can easily adjust column widths:

1. Go to "Preferences":
2. Click "Select Column":
3. Set the widths you prefer and click "Submit" to save your setting:

Tab

Add a Tab | Rearrange Tab Postions | Delete a Tab

You use tabs to organize information of different types, for example, two tabs that are already setup for you in MyOUHK are "eServices" (which contains links to the University's online services) and "MyOUHK News".

To add a tab:

1. Go to "Preferences":
2. Click "New Tab":
3. Then input the name of the tab ("Testing", for example) and select the location (between "eServices" and "MyOUHK News", for example). Click "Submit" when you have finished:

If you want to rearrange the tabs:

1. Go to "Preferences":
2. Single click the tab you want to move. The tab is then highlighted and the menu display is changed. You now select the location for the tab and click "Move":
3. You can also change the location quickly by clicking the arrows:

To delete a tab:

1. Go to "Preferences":
2. Single click the tab you want to delete. The tab is then highlighted and the menu display is changed. You now click "Delete this tab":

Channel

Subscribe to a Channel | Move a Channel | Delete a Channel

A Channel is where you put related information.

You can subscribe to channels already featured in MyOUHK:

1. Go to "Preferences":
2. Click "New Channel":
3. Choose a category and then click "go":
4. There are a few featured channels under each category. Select the channel you are interested in and click "Add" to complete the subscription.

To move a channel:

1. Go to "Preferences":
2. Single click the channel you want to move, The channel is then highlighted:
3. Select "Move this channel to a different location" above:
4. Available locations are shown. Select the position you prefer by clicking "Move Channel to this Location". If you want to move the channel to another tab, click the tab.
5. You can also change the location quickly by clicking the arrows next to the channel.

If you want to delete a channel:

1. Go to "Preferences":
2. Single click the channel you want to delete. The channel is then highlighted:
3. Select "Delete this channel" above:

Bookmark Managers

Add a Bookmark of General Contents | Delete a Bookmark

A bookmark manager is a tool to help you organize your bookmarks for external Internet content.

 

 

To add a bookmark to an external Internet resource:

1. At the bottom of "General Bookmark Manager" (or "OUHK Bookmark Manager" if you prefer), click the icon to add a bookmark.
2. Input a title and the URL of the bookmark. Click "Add" to finish:
3. The bookmark will then appear in your Bookmark Manager:  

To delete a bookmark:

1. At the bottom of "General Bookmark Manager" or "OUHK Bookmark Manager", click the icon to delete a bookmark.
2. Choose the bookmark(s) to be deleted, then click "delete" to finish:
3. The bookmark(s) is/are then deleted:
