Tuition Fee (2017/2018): Full-time : HK$77,200 per year(Paid in 2 equal installments, HK$38,600 each)
A non-means-tested annual subsidy of $30,000 will be provided by the Government for eligible students (applicable to both existing and new students).
Professional Recognition: This programme is the first in Hong Kong being accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), UK. Graduates from the programme are deemed to have met BPS’ requirements for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), provided they pass the empirical psychology dissertation project and achieve a minimum of a 2:2 overall classification of Honours. This allows graduates to be eligible to apply for the BPS’ accredited postgraduate programmes and professional training in Psychology.

A Psychology degree with Honours is the first essential step for articulation to future membership and training in professional Psychology. Psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour and mental processes. Because of its wide applicability on many aspects of human's lives, the study of psychology is a good preparation for further studies and many professions (e.g. management and marketing, design, health care). The programme aims to provide students with a solid foundation of knowledge in different disciplines of psychology for employment and further studies.

Aims

Bachelor of Science with Honours in Psychology aims to give students a thorough grounding in the theory and application of psychology (according to British Psychological Society’s professional standards for undergraduate degrees), and to help them develop interest in key specialized subject areas. This will ensure that students are equipped with the essential knowledge(e.g. experimental work), to position them advantageously for further study, research work and/or a career in the psychological profession.

Programme Features

  • The 1st international accredited programme in HK by the British Psychological Society, a first step in the professional pathway to becoming a psychologist;

  • Degree awarded by the University of Salford, equivalent to that awarded to UK local students;

  • Students can choose to study their senior years in HK or UK;

  • Graduates are eligible for tuition fee discounts for pursuing MSc/PhD Psychology, while graduates with First Class Honours would be granted full tuition fee waiver for pursuing MSc Psychology;

Objectives

Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to demonstrate:

  • A sound knowledge and understanding of concepts and theories in the area of social, developmental, neurophysiological, personality and intelligence and cognitive psychology;

  • Competence in the application of research methods and analysis of data;

  • Sound psychological report-writing skills; and

  • Knowledge and understanding of applying psychology in real world contexts.


 
 
BN005 is an exempted course under the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance (BN005: 452079). It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognise any qualification to which these courses may lead.
