About Us

Welcome to the School of Arts and Social Sciences

As one of the largest Schools in the University, The School of Arts and Social Sciences currently has around 2,300 full-time undergraduate students, over 1,900 part-time undergraduate students, and more than 250 taught/research postgraduate students. It has well over 100 members of full-time academic staff, and about 100 part-time members. The academic activity of the School is located primarily on the main Ho Man Tin Campus and the Jockey Club Campus of the University.

Academic Diversity

Diversity is our watchword. We are proud to provide a dynamic and stimulating arena for research and teaching in subject areas as diverse as Creative Arts, Humanities, Language and Translation, and Social Sciences. This gives students a wide variety of modules, as well as a chance to draw on the expertise of the broadest possible range of academic staff.

Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies

Our School offers eight taught Master's and research degree programmes, twenty-four undergraduate degree programmes, together with a suite of sub-degree programmes, many of which are recognized by a number of professional bodies and a range of exemptions have been granted to graduates and students.

For details, you can access the online Prospectus for New Students. The programme and course information can be searched here.

Research Strengths

We organize innovative interdisciplinary research across the School and beyond. Our latest research activities focus on cross-cultural themes, which include a lecture series on international dialogue featuring speakers from various parts of the world, and the  conferences “Culture in Translation: International Reception of Chinese Literature” and “The New vs the Old: International Conference on Literature and Intellectual Thinking in Late Qing and Early Republican China” (推陳致新──清末民初文學與思想國際學術研討會). The School has recently set up an Research Institute for Digital Culture & Humanities (RIDCH), the first and only research hub that focuses on digital culture and humanities in Hong Kong. Our staff members have a successful record in obtaining research grants from funding bodies such as the Research Grants Council and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
