Medium of Instruction: Except for Chinese language course, lectures will be conducted in English.
Mode of Study: Full-time
Duration: 2 Years Full-time
Tuition Fee (2016/2017): HK$115,200 (Paid in 4 equal semester installments, HK$28,800 each)
Professional Recognition: In collaboration with the Hong Kong Veterinary Association (HKVA), graduates are recognized by the HKVA aseligible for Associate Membership which enhance the professionalism and employability to be veterinary assistants in related fields.

  • Graduates may also apply for a number of local and overseas degree programmes in health related areas for top-up degree articulation.

The programme aims to provide students with the opportunities of professional learning in veterinary nursing and animal public education. Graduates will acquire knowledge about the importance of animal care and veterinary health issues.


In response to the increased interest in pet care and animal welfare, the programme aims to equip students with knowledge and skills to be a veterinary nurse or other roles in veterinary related fields in Hong Kong. The programme includes systematic training for students to gain hands-on working experience with animals and provides extensive work-integrated learning for enhancing practical skills and preparation for the future work.


Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to :

  • Apply a range of generic skills, including language, interpersonal communication, information technology and analytical skills in veterinary nursing;
  • Evaluate the knowledge and theory that underpin animal health and welfare and veterinary nursing;
    Apply the appropriate veterinary nursing skills and developed standard practices;
  • Formulate and implement nursing care for animal patients through teamwork and evidence-based practice;
  • Critically synthesize and integrate a range of factors, including scientific / technical, ethical, socio-economic and emotional, when providing, or assisting in providing, optimal animal care and health advice;
  • Protect and promote health and welfare of animals in Hong Kong;
  • Critically evaluate and solve practical problems in the workplace in a professionally sound manner; and
  • Keep abreast of developments relevant to veterinary nursing and foster a self-directed, reflective and lifelong approach in learning.

Entry Requirement

Applicants are normally required to have either one of the following qualifications:  

  • Level 2 in 5 HKDSE subjects including English and Chinese and either one of the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology or related study; or

  • Grade E in 1 HKALE A-Level (or an equivalent number of AS) subject(s); and
    (i) 5 passes in HKCEE including English and Chinese; or
    (ii) 3 passes in HKCEE plus level 2 or above in English and Chinese; or
    (iii) Plus a pass in Chemistry, Biology or related science subject in HKCEE/AS/AL.

  • Satisfactory completion of a Diploma or an equivalent programme (at QF level 3); or

  • Satisfactory completion of  a Yi Jin Diploma or

  • Other acceptable equivalent qualifications (including non-local qualifications obtained in or outside HK, or other qualifications / experience deemed to be equivalent); or

  • Mature applicants who are 21 years of age or above with a minimum of 3 years' working experience will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
