2021/22 Autumn Term Teaching & Learning Arrangements 2021-05-17

2021/22 Autumn Term Teaching & Learning Arrangements

    Dear students,

I am delighted to be able to announce that face-to-face classes will be resuming on 20th September 2021, given that the public health situation in Hong Kong is improving. The past year has been challenging and I am sure you will join us in welcoming a gradual return to normality. We are excited to be able to offer you the full learning experience provided by the University once more.

Throughout the past year, we have deployed several alternative learning methods. Many of you have provided feedback that you have found some of these to be helpful and productive in your studies. As such, we will be exploring how we can retain some of these features in our future courses.

Going back to Face-to-Face Lectures and Tutorials

All lectures, tutorials and laboratory sessions will be delivered face-to-face in 2021 Autumn term starting on 20th September 2021. The term timetable you will receive by late August will have all the details. For practicums, arrangements will be made by individual Schools and information will be sent to students concerned separately. In case the public health situation deviates from its current positive trajectory, or if there are measures put in place by the Hong Kong SAR Government which impose constraints on class size, we will provide options for teachers to deliver their lectures online. Otherwise, we expect that all students will attend their classes face-to-face during the 2021 Autumn term.

    Continuous and End-of-term Course Assessment

Continuous assessment and end-of-term examinations are integral in measuring course intended learning outcomes. Over the past two years, course assessment has been adjusted to take various forms such as online examinations and take-home assignments. In the 2021 Autumn term, we envisage we will return to our regular on-campus invigilated examinations as the pandemic eases. While observing the Government’s social distancing requirements, the University will make every effort to ensure the safety of students who attend on-campus invigilated examinations.

    Non-local Students

Non-local students who will be arriving in Hong Kong for their face-to-face classes or lectures should closely monitor the quarantine requirements imposed by the Hong Kong SAR Government and make travel plans accordingly. Non-local students are welcome to consult the latest useful information put together by our Student Affairs Office (SAO) on this website, and contact the SAO colleagues if assistance is needed. The University will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and make any necessary adjustments as and when required. The latest information will be published by the University on this website.

    Welcome Back On-campus

While it has been quite a difficult two years, let us all learn from the challenge and be optimistic to welcome a new academic year in 2021/22.  I, together with all our academic staff, look forward to seeing all our students back on-campus and I hope you do too.

    Sincerely,

    Reggie Kwan

    Provost
