Updates on New Campus Access Control Measures 2022-01-24

    Dear Students,

Further to my email dated 4 January 2022 regarding the announcement on new campus access control measures to protect and safeguard the community, I would like to provide you with an update on the arrangements as follows:

    1. Approval Mechanism for Taking COVID-19 Test for Campus Access

Starting from 1 March 2022 (Tuesday), all students and staff are required to be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before entering the campuses.  For those who are unable to receive vaccination due to medical reasons or other legitimate personal reasons, they are required to submit the reason(s) for approval by the University’s Campus Access Control Committee.  They will only be allowed to enter the University’s campuses subject to the approval by the Committee and undergoing a COVID-19 RT-PCR nucleic acid test with negative result every 7 days.

The Committee has the sole discretion of approval and normally, only medical reasons will be accepted.  Individual applicants concerned will be notified of the approval result as soon as possible.  Applicants are reminded that they are still required to comply with the access control measures effective from 1 March 2022 irrespective of the result of their application.

All students are required to update your vaccination record or apply for taking the test with reason(s) via the Vaccination / Testing Registration System (VTRS) by 31 January 2022 (Monday).

Failure of timely update or submission by the deadline may impact your access to the campuses when the new measures kick in.  Please email vtrs@hkmu.edu.hk if you have any questions.

    1. Reporting Mechanism and Campus access for Compulsory COVID-19 Testing or Mandatory Quarantine required by the Government

If you are required by the Government to undergo single/multiple compulsory COVID-19 testing or mandatory quarantine, you should inform the University via this online reporting form.  For compulsory testing, you should not come back to campus  until a negative result of your first test is available. However, the University may exercise discretion to decide whether further negative results are required before allowing you to enter the campus.

    1. Consequences for Non-fulfillment of the Campus Access Control Measures

If you are not fully vaccinated for at least 14 days on or after 1 March 2022, or if you are approved for testing by the University but fail to provide negative testing result every 7 days, you will be barred from entering the campus.  No special accommodation in the form of online classes will be provided.

In view of the persistence of the COVID-19 pandemic, you are strongly encouraged to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible to protect yourself, the University’s staff and students as well as the HKSAR community as a whole.  The University will continue to monitor the pandemic situation and make any necessary adjustments as and when required. For information about the HKSAR Government’s COVID-19 vaccination programme, please visit https://www.covidvaccine.gov.hk/en/.  For information about the authorized COVID-19 test services, please visit https://www.coronavirus.gov.hk/eng/early-testing.html.

We deeply appreciate your continued support and cooperation in the University’s health protection measures. Wish you and your family a healthy and successful Year of the Tiger!

    Prof. Lui Yu Hon
