Teaching and Learning Arrangements for 2022 Spring Term 2021-11-30

    Dear Students,

To facilitate preparation for the 2022 Spring Term, which will commence on 31st January 2022, I am writing to update you on the University’s teaching and learning arrangements.

With vaccination rate increasing in Hong Kong and local infections maintaining at a very low level, the University has decided to return to normal and fully resume face-to-face teaching in the 2022 Spring Term.  There will not be special online accommodations for teaching activities including lectures, tutorials and laboratory sessions.  Students are required to attend classes physically to fulfil attendance requirements of your respective programme.  Same as in the Autumn Term, end-of-term examinations will take the form of on-campus invigilated examinations.  For students who cannot come on campus for legitimate reasons, such as travel ban of your location, you can apply for deferment of studies.  Please note that only applications with legitimate reasons and valid supporting documents will be considered.

Students who are currently outside Hong Kong should pay attention to the quarantine requirements imposed by the Hong Kong SAR Government and make travel plans accordingly. Ample time should be allowed to complete compulsory quarantine requirements and get vaccinated prior to the start of term.  If you have/will come to Hong Kong for Autumn Term examinations, you are advised to stay in Hong Kong instead of travelling back during the term break.  This will prevent any delay in joining your face-to-face classes in the Spring Term.

For the health and safety of the University community, we strongly encourage all of you to get vaccinated as soon as possible.  The University has stepped up cleaning of communal areas and will continue to practice precautionary measures such as mask wearing, temperature checking, and LeaveHomeSafe to ensure campus environmental hygiene.  More stringent campus access control measures are also being considered.

We have confidence that by working together, we can overcome challenges under the pandemic. Thank you in advance for your support and wish you all the best with the upcoming examinations in December.

    Sincerely,
    Reggie Kwan
    Provost
