In view of the adverse effect on students’ study and job hunting caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) launched a ‘Special Students Enhancement Scheme’ (SSES) to encourage and assist students to equip themselves for enhancing personal development and employability.
OUHK is committed to offering continuous and appropriate support services to its students throughout their study. The University understands that students may encounter difficulties in joining co-curricular activities, training, part-time jobs or internships during this tough time, as well as feel worried about the fierce competition for job vacancies in the coming years due to the economic downturn. In view of this, the OUHK has launched the ‘Special Students Enhancement Scheme’, in an effort to support students to enhance their competitiveness.
SSES is a new initiative introduced by the Student Affairs Office (SAO) of the OUHK for the period from 13 May to 31 December 2020 and it is applicable to all active full-time students including sub-degrees, undergraduates and postgraduates. Students participating in at least one activity, either held by the OUHK or outside agencies, which helps enhance their personal development and employability will be granted a one-off subsidy of HK$1,000 as a token of encouragement. In addition, the University will also provide feedback on students’ submitted CVs to facilitate their job application.
President of the OUHK Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong said, ‘Student is of utmost importance to the University. We care for them and are determined to do our best to support them to ease their hardships. Students are encouraged to grasp the chance to add value to themselves during the epidemic outbreak so as to be better prepared for the future.’
