The Graduation Show features a wide array of work such as animations, short films, fine art photographs and advertising campaigns, which fully demonstrate students’ creativity and artistic talent.
The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) is holding its annual Graduation Show of Creative Arts from today until 1 July at the Jockey Club Campus, showcasing about 100 pieces of works by around 300 students from the four creative arts undergraduate programmes.

The theme of this year's Graduation Show is "Mind.Blowing". It is an expression of a burst of inspiration in students’ mind, and their profound power of commitment to making a difference through creativity and imagination.

An Opening Ceremony cum Screening was held last Friday (21 June). Officiating at the Ceremony were the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Department Ms Michelle Li Mei-sheung, Acting Deputy Secretary for Education Ms Elaine Mak Tse-ling, Hong Kong renowned Chinese ink master Prof. Wucius Wong, Chairman of the OUHK Mr Michael Wong Yick-kam, Acting President of the OUHK Prof. Reggie Kwan Ching-ping, Vice President (Administration & Development) of the OUHK Prof. Tong Chong-sze, Dean of the OUHK School of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Charles Kwong Che-leung, Head of Creative Arts cum Associate Professor of the OUHK School of Arts and Social Sciences Dr Rebecca Leung Mo-ling, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the OUHK Graduation Show of Creative Arts Ms Amy Chan Yuk-ting.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Reggie Kwan congratulated the students for staging such a successful show, and thanked them for enabling the public to learn and reflect on various issues from new perspectives through their innovative and thought-provoking works. He said, "I am delighted to see a diverse range of artworks and projects presented at this year’s Graduation Show, which demonstrates not only our students' boundless imagination and sophisticated technical skills, but also their passion and opinions regarding different cultural and social topics."

Prof. Kwan added that many students and graduates from the OUHK’s creative arts programmes have performed exceptionally well in local and international competitions, for instance the Golden Horse Awards, DigiCon6 Asia, HK4As Students’ Award and more. He felt proud of the students and encouraged them to keep improving themselves and aim for excellence. He also said that the OUHK will continue its effort to provide students with all the professional training, support and opportunities for them to realize their dreams and become future leaders in the arts, creative and cultural fields.

On the same occasion, two new awards, namely the "Audience Choice Award" (three awards) and "CA Award" (four awards), were presented to outstanding students and their works to recognize their passion and talent, and encourage them to pursue a career in the creative industries after graduation.

The annual OUHK Graduation Show of Creative Arts is a celebration of students’ creativity and achievements. It features final year projects of students in the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Creative Writing and Film Arts, Animation and Visual Effects, Cinematic Design and Photographic Digital Art, and Creative Advertising and Media Design. It embodies artworks in a variety of formats, including novel and creative writing, photography, expanded imaging, animation, experimental film, micro-movie, multimedia installation, and 3D installation art.

Some of the inspirational creative works include: a documentary titled Get Along Well (project by a Creative Writing and Film Arts student) which shows the daily life of a 9-year-old boy with ADHD and ASD and explores his bittersweet relationships with his family; an animation titled The Guardians (project by Animation and Visual Effects students) which talks about the stress and challenges facing healthcare professionals; an egg-shaped art installation titled Life Sonata (project by a Cinematic Design and Photographic Digital Art student) which turns people’s brainwaves into light of different colors and creates unique art; and an advertising campaign for a local craft brewery "Heroes Beer Co" titled Heroes Beer:Quaky 4 Party (project by Creative Advertising and Media Design students) which promotes the uniqueness of the brand and the Hong Kong’s craft beer culture.
