Over 300 Creative Arts graduates of The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) showcase about 100 pieces of their work at the First Joint Graduation Show.

Jointly organized by the graduates of the four Creative Arts programmes for the first time, the Graduation Show has a theme "Preface" which signifies a new beginning. It also implies the joint efforts of the students in staging the event to demonstrate and celebrate their creativity and enthusiasm, as the words "Preface" (意"序") and "Assembly"(意"聚") share the same pronunciation in Cantonese.

An Opening Ceremony and Screening was held tonight (23 June) at the Jockey Club Campus Jubilee College. Officiated at the ceremony are the Chairman of the Hong Kong Advertisers Association (HK2A) Mr Raymond Ho and Dean of OUHK School of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Tam Kwok-kan.

All the artworks presented are created and developed by the graduates of the four OUHK Creative Arts programmes, namely the Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Creative Writing and Film Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in Animation and Visual Effects, Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in Cinematic Design and Photographic Digital Art, and Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Creative Advertising and Media Design.

The Show not only serves as a platform for students to demonstrate their passion and creativity, but also offers a venue for them to express their views on various cultural and social issues so as to arouse public concern and discussions.

Some of the projects include: a novel titled "Voice in the Dark" (project by Creative Writing and Film Arts students) which aims to prompt discussions on local political issues and elections;a short animated film titled "Losing Sight of a Longed Place" (project by Animation and Visual Effects students) which explores the struggles of sexual minority; a photography series titled "About Fashion and Us" (project by students from Cinematic Design and Photographic Digital Art programme) which addresses the environmental problems of fast fashion; and an advertising campaign titled "Hong Kong Tramway Blablabla" (project by Creative Advertising and Media Design students) which promotes the traditional lifestyle and cultures in Hong Kong.

The exhibits come in a variety of formats, such as novel and creative writing, photography, animation, experimental film, micro-movie, multimedia installation, 3D installation art and more. There will also be a Screening Day on 24 June, in which a wide range of videos and short films created by the students will be shown.

Admission to the exhibition is free and all members of the public are welcome.
