  • Regulations for the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours in Environmental Studies (with Management)

    Programme Information for New Students
      To facilitate your registration, check the course information by inputting the course code   
    These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees.

    In these regulations definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.

    Bachelor of Science with Honours in Environmental Studies (with Management) (BSCHESM) (See Note 20)
    1. To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours in Environmental Studies (with Management), a student shall:
      a) comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
      b) comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
      c) obtain at least 160 credits of which no more than 40 credits shall be obtained at Foundation level; and
      d) obtain at least 40 credits in courses at Higher level; and
      e) successfully complete the prescribed programme of studies.
    2. For the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours in Environmental Studies (with Management), the University has prescribed that a student must:
      a) obtain 25 credits from courses labelled FH in Table 1; and
      b) obtain 100 credits from courses labelled CH in Table 1,i.e. BIOL S205, ENVR S237, BIOL S301, BIOL S302, BIOL S303, BIOL S328/BIOL S338, CHEM S310/CHEM S311 and CHEM S312, ENVR S320, ENVR S335, ENVR S341 and either ENVR S216 or both CHEM S251 and MATH S242/STAT S242; and
      c) obtain 5 credits from courses labelled BMH in Table 1; and
      d) obtain 10 credits from courses labelled BH in Table 1; and
      e)

    obtain 20 credits from courses labelled BCH in Table 1.

    3. Each degree with Honours shall be conferred with a classification of First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), Second Class (Lower Division) or Third Class save that exceptionally a degree may be conferred without classification.
    4. Subject to the requirements of the relevant programme of study, each person on whom an Honours degree is to be conferred shall be assigned to a classification determined by the University according to its regulations.
    5. For the calculation of scores for classification purposes in the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours in Environmental Studies (with Management), the University has deemed that "Group (a)" shall consist of the best 40 credits in courses at Higher level listed in Table 1, and that "Group (b)" shall consist of the best 40 credits in courses at Higher or Middle level listed in Table 1, where such credits are not taken into account in "Group (a)". Further, that "X" shall equal two, that is "Group (a)" shall be weighted at twice the value of "Group (b)". (Refer to the paragraphs on Classification of the Degree with Honours of the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees.)

    1. Courses form excluded combinations with other courses. Only one of the courses of the excluded combinations can count towards an OUHK award. Students should refer to the attached list for details.

    3. If students have successfully completed BIOL S202/BIOL S203, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for BIOL S204.
       
    4. If students have successfully completed CHEM S246, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for CHEM S251.
       
    5. If students have successfully completed ENVR S334, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for ENVR S335.
       
    6. ACT B211 and ACT B212 have been combined into ACT B210. Successful completion of ACT B211 and ACT B212 is considered as completion of ACT B210.
       
    7. If students have successfully completed ECON A230, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for ECON A231 and ECON A232.
       
    8. If students have successfully completed LAW B260, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for LAW B262 and LAW B263.
       
    9. If students have successfully completed MGT B290, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for MGT B346.
       
    10. If students have successfully completed BIOL S204, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for BIOL S205, BIOL S301, BIOL S302 and BIOL S303.
       
    11. Students shall study either ENVR S216 or CHEM S251 and MATH S242/STAT S242.
       
    12. If students have successfully completed BUS B100, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for BUS B103.
       
    13. BIOL S328 has been replaced by BIOL S338. If students have successfully completed BIOL S328, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for BIOL S338.
       
    14. MKT B469 has been replaced by MKT B461 and MKT B462. If students have successfully completed MKT B469, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for MKT B461 and MKT B462. Also, the course code of MKT B461 has been revised as IB B461.  If students have successfully completed MKT B461, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for IB B461.
       
    15. MGT B343 has been replaced by MGT B344 and MGT B345. Successful completion of MGT B343 is considered as completion of MGT B344 and MGT B345.
       
    16. If students have successfully completed MATH S242, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for STAT S242.
       
    17. MGT B440 has been replaced by MGT B441 and MGT B442. Successful completion of MGT B440 is considered as completion of MGT B441 and MGT B442.
       
    18. SCI S121 has been replaced by SCI S123 and SCI S124. Successful completion of SCI S121 is considered as completion of SCI S123 and SCI S124.
       
    19. CHEM S310 has been replaced by CHEM S311 and CHEM S312. Successful completion of CHEM S310 is considered as completion of CHEM S311 and CHEM S312.
       
    20. The programme of Bachelor of Science with Honours in Environmental Studies (with Management) has been phased out with effect from 2017 Spring term. The last conferment of the programme will be December 2022.
