  • Regulations for the Higher Diploma in Engineering Design

    Programme Information for New Students
      To facilitate your registration, check the course information by inputting the course code   

    These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications (Sub-degrees).

    In these regulations definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.

    Higher Diploma in Engineering Design (HDED) (See Note 8)
    1. To be eligible for the award of the Higher Diploma in Engineering Design, a student shall:
      a) comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
      b) comply with the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications (Sub-degrees); and
      c)

    obtain at least 90 credits in courses prescribed by the regulations including at least 10 credits from Higher level courses and no more than 10 credits at Pre-foundation level.

    2. For the Higher Diploma in Engineering Design, the University has prescribed that a student must:
      a) obtain 10 credits from courses labelled CE in Table 1; and
      b) obtain 10 credits from compulsory courses labelled CS in Table 1; and
      c) obtain 20 credits from courses labelled ED in Table 1; and
      d) obtain 20 credits from courses labelled FE in Table 1; and
      e) obtain 20 credits from courses labelled ME in Table 1; and
      f) obtain 10 credits from courses labelled HE in Table 1.

    2. Courses form excluded combinations with other courses. Only one of the courses of the excluded combinations can count towards an OUHK award. Students should refer to the attached list for details.
       
    3. Students may satisfy the requirement to complete MATH S112/MATH S122 by successfully completing MATH S282.
       
    4. Courses no longer available.
       
    5. Successful completion of SCI S319/TC S319 and SCI S409/TC S409 are considered as completion of ENGG S238.
       
    6. Successful completion of MECH S264 is considered as completion of DESN S217.
       
    7. Successful completion of SCI S121 is considered as completion of SCI S123 and SCI S124.
       
    8. The programme of Higher Diploma in Engineering Design will be phased out starting from April 2015. The University will continue to confer the award of the Higher Diploma in Engineering Design up to June 2018.
