    Systems Engineering

    Course Coordinator: Dr Kevin Hung, BSc (Queen's University); MPhil, PhD (CUHK); MIEEE, MIET, MCIE

    This course aims to:

    • Critically review, consolidate and interpret the process of requirement analysis, design, development and implementation phases of a complex system;

    • Utilize system concepts, tools and techniques for designing and implementing complex systems;

    • Critically review and consolidate the management activities in the planning and control of systems engineering projects;

    • Utilize technical management processes to coordinate numerous aspects of systems engineering projects.

    The course covers the following topics:

    • Deve ging a complex system

    • The phases and life cycle of the systems engineering process: Requirement definition, generating business, product and service development, implementation of a complex system, customer service

    • Systems engineering management problems, managing the systems engineering process, and systems engineering in a multinational multi-institutional context

    • Configuration management and risk management

    • Enabling technologies for systems engineering

    • Future trends in complex systems, personnel deployment and multi-organization networks

    Learning support
    There will be regular lectures. Some seminars and workshops will be given throughout the course.

    The course assessment will consist of a continuous assessment portion and a three-hour examination. The continuous assessment portion includes two assignments and a test. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).

Through the OLE, you can communicate electronically with your lecturer and the Course Coordinator as well as other students. Students need to have access to the Internet in order to access the OLE. The use of the OLE is required for the study and the assessment of this course.
