    Important notes
    This course will be taught through a part-time face-to-face mode. Lectures will be normally scheduled on weekday evenings or Saturdays.

    ENVR S860F is a course designed by the School of Science and Technology for the postgraduate programmes in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management. This course covers knowledge and skills for planning and practising safety management in premises. The essential elements, as statutorily required by the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation, will be studied. Students will be trained to implement safety measures in workplaces. A mini-project shall be conducted by all students as part of the assessment to enhance their practical knowledge and experience in the operation, review and audit of safety measures.

    Aims
    The course aims to train students with professional knowledge and skills in handling safety practices as required by a registered safety officer. Students will be exposed to legal requirements as stipulated in the Factories and Industrial Undertaking (Safety Officers and Safety Supervisors) Regulations, as well as knowledge in safety and accident management.

    Contents
    The course covers the following topics:

    • Principles of accident and safety management

    • Safety management on workplaces

    • Safety in factories and other undertakings

    • Safety legislation and policies

    • Hazards and risks

    • Safety management systems and auditing

    • Safety promotion and training

    Assessment
    Course assessment will be divided into continuous assessment and a final examination. Continuous assessment will include assignments, test, and/or a project. A final examination will be conducted at the end of the course. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
