    (from left)

Prof. Edward Chen Kwan-yiu, GBS, CBE, JP
    (Doctor of Letters, honoris causa)

Prof. Edward Chen Kwan-yiu is a prominent economist, a visionary educator and a community leader with an eminent record of public service. He obtained Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and a PhD in economics from Oxford University. He taught at the HKU for 25 years starting in 1970 and became President of Lingnan University in 1995, a position he held until his retirement in 2007. Prof. Chen was a pioneer in the study of newly industrialized economies and has conducted long-term research on the changing patterns of foreign direct investment and the role of multinational corporations in economic development and technology transfer. During his presidency at Lingnan, he was widely admired for his success in cultivating a distinctive student-centred educational community based in the liberal arts. His committed involvement in public services has earned him a CBE and a Gold Bauhinia Star.

    Mr Liu Mingkang
(Doctor of Business Administration, honoris causa)

Mr Liu Mingkang, a world-renowned banker and a distinguished leader in the financial industry, began his banking career in 1979 when he joined the Bank of China (BOC). With business acumen and effective leadership, Mr Liu held various senior positions in China’s banking and financial institutions, and was named the first Chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC). His prowess in organizational reengineering was clearly demonstrated by the series of bold reforms he masterminded during his presidency at BOC and the construction of an effective system of banking supervision in China during his tenure at CBRC. The CBRC and Mr Liu himself were jointly presented the 2009 Risk Manager of the Year Award by the Global Association of Risk Professionals. In 2012, Mr Liu received the Asian Banker Lifetime Achievement Award.

    Mr Gerald Siu Chi-shing
(Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa)

Mr Gerald Siu Chi-shing, Managing Director of Hong Kong Funeral Home and Director of Kowloon Funeral Home, has played a significant role in promoting the development of Hong Kong’s funeral service industry. Mr Siu started assisting in running the family’s business after graduating from Whittier College in California in 1975. In 2003 when the city was under serious threat from SARS, Mr Siu demonstrated a high level of professionalism and gave comfort to grieving families by leading his staff to provide committed funeral services for those who died during the epidemic. Believing in ‘Education for All,’ Mr Siu has supported the OUHK through the establishment of scholarships and through donations for its campus development. He is actively involved in a number of non-profit organizations.
