    event1

Through continuing collaboration between the OUHK and Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), a new series of Opening for Learningeducational TV programmes began airing on 7 October on TVB Pearl on Sunday mornings. A contract-signing cum programme-launching ceremony was held on 27 September on the OUHK campus, officiated by President Prof. John C Y Leong and TVB Assistant General Manager Mr Peter Au.

event2The OUHK is the only university in Hong Kong that regularly broadcasts educational TV programmes on public channels. The University has aired its Open for Learning programmes regularly since it was established in 1989, and has joined hands with TVB several times to bring the show to the public. The new series features a wider spectrum of topics, and adds programmes about cultural and creative arts, testing and certification, medical services and environmental protection, along with coverage of future developments at the University.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Peter Au thanked the OUHK for this opportunity, saying, 'It has enabled us to help enrich people's knowledge through TVB channels. I hope this great collaborative relationship between us will continue.' Prof. Leong said, 'With TVB's huge audience in Hong Kong and South China, this partnership will definitely help promote learning in society.'

event3In addition to a number of OUHK senior staff members, the ceremony was attended by Deputy Controller of the Marketing and Sales Division Mr Tso Shiu-to and Deputy Controller of the Programme Division Ms Nancy Lai of TVB and a stellar line-up of TVB artistes, including Ms Queenie Chu, Ms Mandy Wong, Ms Lisa Ch’ng and Mr Matthew Ko, and emcee Ms Heidi Chu. The artistes shared their learning experiences with the audience.

event4I was given the chance to serve as a master of ceremonies when I started working in the entertainment industry. Later I pursued a Master's Degree in corporate communications and came to see how continuing learning could help me advance my career. Now I’m a mother and hope to study child psychology in the future.

    Heidi Chu

I was a major in politics and communications, though I'm now an actress. I believe that what I learned at school will benefit me my entire life. Last year I attended a number of investment courses and my next target is to realize my dream of pursuing a degree in law.

    Queenie Chu

With a strong interest in the creative arts, I took media production courses in high school and later obtained a Bachelor's Degree in fashion design. I understand the OUHK offers programmes in the creative arts and I look forward to the opportunity to take courses in the future.

    Lisa Ch'ng

event7 I studied abroad and hosted children's TV programmes for two years upon starting a career in the entertainment field. I believe that education is very important and everyone should establish a foundation of learning in childhood. This is why I'm running a children's education centre.

    Matthew Ko

event8 I graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts majoring in Musical Theatre Dance. After graduation, I worked to gain some life experience and then returned to school two years later to further my studies in drama. Despite a very tight work schedule, I used two or three weeks every year to study something new in Hong Kong or elsewhere.

    Mandy Wong
