event1President talks with young people on ideal education

President Prof. John C Y Leong was invited to be one of the guest speakers at Youth Summit 2012, jointly organized by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Commission on Youth on 24 November. Held every two years, the Summit aims to provide young people with a platform to express their views on social policies. The theme this year was 'Voices of the Youth -- Our Ideal ... ', under which four sub-themes were chosen through online voting by young people and the public. Prof. Leong took part in the session 'Our Ideal Education' with the Secretary for Education Mr Ng Hak-kim and had an exchange with participants on the '3+3+4' system, small class teaching, civic education, reform of the academic structure, and examination mode. Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR and other senior government officials participatd in other sub-themes.

    event3Gratitude from an inmate student

After a new recruitment exercise, over 20 part-time tutors volunteered to provide study counselling for inmate students under the OUHK's Learning for a New Life Scheme. In July, they paid visits to Stanley Prison, Shek Pik Prison, Tung Tau Correctional Institution and Lo Wu Correctional Institution. One of the students wrote a couplet in Chinese calligraphy to thank the tutors and the donor who supported his study.
