    Mainland business students attend residential school and graduation ceremony

    The Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration held its residential school and graduation ceremony for 233 students from nine partner institutions in the mainland from 14 to 18 January on campus. The students, all graduates of the Master of Business Administration and Master of Professional Accounting programmes also attended a three-day seminar and visits to organizations.

    Closing-of-the-Lunar-Year Luncheon

    Both Council Chairman Dr Eddy C Fong and President Prof. John C Y Leong praised the achievements of over 700 colleagues who attended the Closing-of-the-Lunar-Year Luncheon on 17 January on the Ho Man Tin campus. Prof. Leong also congratulated Lecturer Dr Agol Ho, Assistant Professor Dr Li Mei-kuen, Lecturer Dr Michael Ng and Programme Manager Dr Joey Wong, on obtaining their Doctoral Degrees.

    The President’s Award for Distinguished Achievement was presented to School of Arts and Social Sciences Lecturer Mr Dan Ip and Assistant Lecturer Ms Venus Lai. Under their guidance, the short film Remains, produced by students Riley Leung and Lau Siu-tsun and graduate Poon Kai-yeung, received the Best Script Award (Local Student Division) in the Fresh Wave 2011 International Short Film Festival and a Silver Award in the 2012 California Film Awards (California Film Competition Category).

    This year Long Service Awards were given to 26 colleagues, including full-time staff and part-time tutors, who have worked at the University for 20 years, 57 colleagues for ten years of service and five retiring staff members. Prof. Yvonne Fung, former Dean of the School of Education and Languages, gave an address on behalf of the retirees. Award presentations were followed by games, a lucky draw, music videos and lively performances by staff and students.

    Run to raise funds for cataract patients in China

    Led by Council Chairman Dr Eddy C Fong and Head of Finance Mr Santiago Chuen, over 50 OUHK students and staff members took part in the Lifeline Express Charity Run/Walk 2012. The group gathered at the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club on 24 November 2012, raising funds for the ‘Lifeline Express’ Hospital Eye-train to give underprivileged cataract patients in China a hope of regaining their sight.

    Raising funds to support bridge-building projects

    Through the joint effort of the Students’ Union and the Student Affairs Office of the Registry, a team of 47 OUHK staff members and students was organized to join the Intervarsity Charity Walk: Wu Zhi Xing 2012. Led by President Prof. John C Y Leong, the participants raised funds for the Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation’s bridge-building projects in remote areas in China. The event was held on 25 November 2012 in Tai Tam Country Park, and many local tertiary institutions participated.

    Welcome Luncheon

    President Prof. John C Y Leong, joined by the two Vice Presidents, School deans and unit heads, welcomed OUHK newcomers and congratulated colleagues on their promotions at a luncheon held on 12 December 2012 on the Ho Man Tin campus. During the year, 58 academic and 58 non-academic staff members joined the OUHK family while 27 colleagues got promoted, including 15 academic and 12 non-academic staff members.
