    President's message

photo 6 November was a day of celebration and reunion for the OUHK. The University marked its 22nd Anniversary with the Alumni Homecoming Day cum Inauguration Ceremony of CPII Donor Wall. Council and committee members, donors, students, alumni and colleagues gathered at the Ho Man Tin campus to enjoy the festivities and to reconnect with friends.

On this occasion, we thanked our donors for their contributions towards the Campus Phase II Development Project and our fund-raising efforts under the Government's Fifth Matching Grant Scheme. We also officially launched the OUHK New College Project. The highlights of the day were the great performances given by our students and alumni.

Looking back at the past 22 years, the OUHK has achieved a number of significant milestones. We could not have done this without the support of the community members who share our belief in 'Education for All'. Our next milestone will be the construction of the New College, which will allow us to expand full-time programmes to support some of the Government's crucial industries. We sincerely hope that community members will give the project and the 'Name a Desk' fund-raising campaign their support to ensure the timely completion of the New College.

In its efforts to keep pace with the needs of society, the OUHK has established several important partnerships on the development of new programmes in recent months. We have signed collaboration agreements with China Aircraft Services Limited and IBM China/Hong Kong Limited to offer programmes in their respective fields. We are working with the Heep Hong Society to launch top-up programmes in early childhood education, with a focus on special education needs.

The University regularly invites topic experts and academics to give presentations to our students and staff members to help foster greater knowledge. On this note, the seminar 'An Anatomy of the Law in Hong Kong for Maintaining Public Order' delivered by Mr Kevin P Zervos, SC, Director of Public Prosecutions, Department of Justice, was enlightening and visionary. Additionally, a number of topics were examined in depth by renowned local scholars Prof. Edward Chen and Prof. Joseph Cheng at the forum entitled 'Trends in Global Politics and Economics'.

Each year we present Honorary University Fellowships to distinguished individuals for their contributions to the OUHK and to the community. The five recipients of this year's award have made remarkable accomplishments and demonstrated their commitment to using their professional knowledge and expertise to improve the community. We look forward to working closely with them in the future.
