More than 160 students and staff members attended the seminar 'An Anatomy of the Law in Hong Kong for Maintaining Public Order' delivered by Mr Kevin P Zervos, SC, Director of Public Prosecutions, Department of Justice, at the Ho Man Tin campus on 18 October.

photo Mr Zervos started off the seminar by stating that maintaining public order brings into consideration the rights and freedoms of the individual on the one hand, and societal interests on the other. It also involves a respect and understanding of the interests concerned, seeks to strike a balance between these interests, and aims to achieve what is in the public good and what is good for the public, Mr Zervos said in his presentation.

President Prof. John C Y Leong thanked Mr Zervos for bringing an enlightening and visionary presentation to the OUHK. He said in his speech, 'Law and order, as passed from generation to generation, belong not only to a country or society, but to each and every one of us who has need of them in our daily existence, to secure a life of freedom and security in the place we live.'

The seminar, jointly organized by the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration and the School of Arts and Social Sciences, drew an enthusiastic response. Participants raised some in-depth questions at the event.
