The seventh CBMP graduation ceremony

The seventh graduation ceremony of the Capacity Building Mileage Programme (CBMP) was held at the Academic Community Hall on 3 June. Chief Secretary for Administration Mr Henry Tang, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Mr Matthew Cheung, Women’s Commission Chair Ms Sophia Kao, General Manager of Hong Kong Commercial Broadcasting Company Limited Ms Rita Chan, Deputy Secretary for Education Ms Michelle Li, OUHK President Prof. John C Y Leong and Director of LiPACE Prof. Lui Yu-hon officiated at the ceremony.
The programme has been in operation since 2001, with more than 12,100 women having joined the learning platform in order to explore their potential and actualize themselves. At present, 58 courses of different streams are offered in face-to-face, radio and e-learning modes, which are run in partnership with one or more of over 60 NGOs. As indicated by a ratings survey, the number of radio course listeners has surpassed 720,000. Financial assistance is also provided to needy students. |

The first OUHK Elder Academy graduation ceremony

Seventy-one elderly graduates received their awards from the OUHK Elder Academy at its first graduation ceremony, held on 16 July at the Serena Yang Lecture Theatre. Chairman of the Elderly Commission
Dr Leong Che-hung, President of BCT Third Age Academy Ms Lau Ka-shi, OUHK Vice-President (Technology and Development) Prof. Leung Chun-ming and Director of LiPACE Prof. Lui Yu-hon officiated at the ceremony.
Established in 2009, the OUHK Elder Academy is operated by LiPACE to offer lifelong learning opportunities to Hong Kong citizens aged 60 or older. Since its inception, the Academy has organized 76 courses, which have attracted over 1,700 enrolments. Assistance is offered to students with financial difficulties. |

New full-time diploma programmes
Diploma in Food and Nutrition — The programme aims to equip students with a basic knowledge of food science and nutrition. Students will learn about the major areas in health promotion, such as food preparation and diet management.
Diploma in Sport Management — The programme aims to equip
students with various sport management skills, with which students will be able to handle sport injuries, and operate clubs and fitness centres. The programme also prepares students for further studies in sports and recreation. |

Innovative degree programmes to nurture relevant specialists
BSc (Hons) in Environmental and Public Health — The programme is designed to furnish students with the skills of public health intervention, such as providing health advice and promotion, and management of public health services. This is the only undergraduate programme in Hong Kong accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, UK.
BMus (Hons) in Popular Music — The programme aims to provide students with a deep understanding of the popular music context, in terms of its culture, the industry, musicology, aesthetics, and practicality. This is the first and only popular music undergraduate programme to be offered in Hong Kong, with venues and professional equipment provided by the Baron School of Music. Application for exemption from registration of this programme to the Education Bureau is in progress.
BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies — The programme looks into the development of early childhood from the perspectives of history, philosophy, psychology, sociology and management. Through teaching and learning opportunities, and through examining polices related to childcare and child education, students will be introduced to the subject matter across different contexts and disciplines.
These programmes are offered in collaboration with Middlesex University, UK. It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognise any qualifiacation to which these courses may lead. |

Professional recognition of Advanced Diploma in Accounting
The two-year full-time programme has been accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Accredited Accounting Technicians (HKIAAT) and the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA), Australia. Graduates of the programme will be eligible for exemptions of up to seven (out of eight) papers in HKIAAT assessment and ten (out of 12) papers in ICMA examinations for the Registered Business Accountant. |

Postgraduate programmes for diploma graduates
Graduates of the Institute’s seven diploma programmes are eligible to apply for the Postgraduate Certificate programme offered by the Edinburgh Business School in Hong Kong. Upon completion, students will be formally matriculated in the Heriot-Watt University and can progress to the Postgraduate Diploma or Master of Business Administration/Master of Science programmes. |
