    New Council members (20 June 2011 - 19 June 2013)

    Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing, JP, is the Vice-President (Student Affairs) and Chair Professor of Biology at the City University of Hong Kong, with research interests in the areas of ecology, environmental measurement and analysis, eco-toxicology, environmental toxicology and risk assessment. He is also Director of the State Key Laboratory in Marine Pollution. Prof. Lam actively participates in community service. He is currently Chairman of the Advisory Council on the Environment and Marine Parks Committee of the Country and Marine Parks Board, as well as a member of the Town Planning Board. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 2008.

    Mrs Sandra Mak Wong Siu-chun is CEO of Hong Kong-based regional communication and management consultancy A-World Consulting, which she helped found after having served in the Hong Kong Government and CLP Holdings. A communications professional with a long-standing dedication to community and charitable causes, she is a member of the Advisory Council on Food and Environmental Hygiene, the Non-local Higher and Professional Education Appeal Board, etc. She is also Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation, trustee of the UK-based international charity Partnership for Children and Vice President of the Hong Kong Women Professionals & Entrepreneurs Association. Mrs Mak is an alumna of both the University of Hong Kong and Harvard Business School.

    Dr Samson Tam Wai-ho is a Leislative Councillor representing the Information Technology functional constituency and Chairman of Group Sense (International) Ltd. Dr Tam graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong for his undergraduate study and later obtained his Doctoral Degree from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Over the years, he has been committed to enhancing local scientific technology development and promoting scientific collaboration between Hong Kong and mainland China. He was honoured with the Young Industrialist Award of Hong Kong in 1992 and elected as one of the ‘Ten Outstanding Young Persons’ in 1997. In 2008, he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Dr Tam is currently a member of the Digital 21 Strategy Advisory Committee, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council ICT Services Advisory Committee and a member of the Action Committee Against Narcotics.

    Other Council changes

    Dr Charles Kwong Che-leung, Associate Professor of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, became a Senate representative in the Council in June 2011 and will serve for two years, replacing Dr Anthony Ko Chi-keung. Students’ Union President Mr Leung Lok-hang took up his ex-officio position for one year beginning in April 2011, in place of Mr Leung Hin-ming. Mr Matthew Ip Wai-kit has been reappointed for two years starting from May 2011. We also bade farewell to Prof. Patrick Lau Sau-shing, Mr Peter Lo Chi-lik and Mr Raymond Wong and thank them for their service.
