Stories of 2011 full-time programme graduate

    Wilson Chan Yuen-san
    Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours)
    in Applied Social Studies

With the sole wish of gaining a degree when he entered the OUHK, Wilson found university life very fruitful during his three years of study. The relatively small campus offered a close-knit atmosphere to facilitate a closer relationship between teachers and students, and he enjoyed forming study groups with classmates and sharing study tips. With a strong interest in both economics and politics, he joined an internship programme with a political party, as well as participated in the Auxiliary Undergraduate Scheme, and is now an auxiliary police constable serving on the front line. Having graduated with a first class honours degree, Wilson considers both economic analyst and disciplinary force officer to be his dream jobs. However, he has decided to better equip himself and pursue further studies at the University of Warwick in the UK, where he has begun a Master of Science in Economics and International Financial Economics programme this September.

    Olivia Chui Pui-kei
Bachelor of Education with Honours (English Strand) and Bachelor of Language Studies
    (English) (Honours)

Olivia Chui Pui-kei actively participated in extra-curricular activities in her university days. She was a committee member of the Students' Union in 2008 and once represented fellow students by making a speech on the subject of fine-tuning of the medium of instruction at a Legislative Council panel meeting. In 2009, she worked as an editorial intern at China Central Television for a month. Last summer, she served as a research assistant at the Police College, responsible for investigating and analysing police officers' training needs for Putonghua. This valuable experience has broadened her horizons and developed her interpersonal work skills. Olivia is determined to be a teacher and guide her students to become responsible individuals with positive personalities and high self-esteem. She has begun studying a Master's Degree in Gender Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong this September.

    Ivan Law Ka-ho
Bachelor of Nursing with Honours in
    Mental Health Care

Ivan Law Ka-ho likes meeting and getting in touch with people and has always aspired to get a job which would allow him to interact with different types of people. Recalling his first day of practicum training in Castle Peak Hospital, Ivan was indeed a bit nervous, but he soon came to feel at ease with the patients when he saw them in stable conditions. Different from nurses of other specialties, Ivan said that mental health nurses have to spend long hours with their patients and pay attention to every detail of their daily life activities in order to build rapport and enhance communication with them. He hopes to set up his own clinic in the future to provide tailor-made treatment programmes for patients, and to help them recover and reintegrate into society.
