Graduation and Honorary Advisors Appointment Ceremony

The Institute’s Graduation and Honorary Advisors Appointment Ceremony was held at the OUHK campus on 12 March. President Prof. John C Y Leong officiated at the ceremony, which was attended by Council member Mr Matthew Ip Wai-kit and representatives of partner organizations. Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Leong encouraged graduates to continue lifelong learning and contribute to the community. More than 680 graduates of diploma/certificate programmes, professional courses and non-local degree programmes were honoured this year. Certificates were also presented to newly appointed and reappointed honorary advisors and external examiners.

    Apprentice of Cantonese Opera Workshop

LiPACE invited two young performers from the Hong Kong Young Talent Cantonese Opera Troupe to conduct an ‘Apprentice of Cantonese Opera’ Workshop on 27 March. The performers described step-by-step the preparation for a performance and demonstrated how they do make-up and put on costumes and hair accessories. The workshop was recorded for use as teaching material for the Institute’s e-learning programme ‘Certificate in Cantonese Operatic Arts Appreciation’.

New programmes to meet community’s demand

Professional Diploma/Certificate in Theme Parks and Attractions Management

Theme parks in Hong Kong are major tourist attractions and will continue to expand to cope with the development of the tourist industry. To meet the increasing demand for related professionals, LiPACE will launch two unique diploma and certificate programmes in theme parks and attractions management. Students who are currently non-industry practitioners will be provided job attachment opportunities at the Hong Kong Disneyland.

    Certificate in Professional Tree Management

Public concern about tree management is on the rise following a few accidents in which trees collapsed due to poor management. As a result, the Government has set up the Tree Management Office, and there are private companies providing tree management services to the public. To cater to the increasing demand for tree management professionals, LiPACE introduced a Certificate in Professional Tree Management programme, which consists of two courses, namely, Essentials of Tree Management and Tree Inspection and Risk Management. The first intake will commence in December. For details, please visit the programme website at www.ouhk.edu.hk/lipace/newprog.

Various industry experts were invited to speak at the seminar held at Serena Yang Lecture Theatre on 19 March.
