    New Council members (term of service from June 2010 to June 2012)

    Mr Eddy Lee is a Director of Lee Kum Kee Co Ltd.  He is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, and has been a General Committee Member and Chairman of the Food, Beverages and Tobacco Group of the Federation since 1995. He also serves as a Board Member of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, a co-opted Executive Committee Member of the Hong Kong Food Council, the Permanent Honorary President of the Hong Kong Foodstuffs Association, the President of the Hong Kong Hebei Friendship Association and the Vice Chairman of the Lifeline Express (HK) Foundation. In addition to public service in Hong Kong,
    Mr Lee has been a member of the 10th Hebei Provincial Standing Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the 11th Jiangmen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

    Mrs Joanna Li is a lawyer of 23 years’ standing and a partner of a law firm in Hong Kong. As a member of the Women’s Commission since 2005, she has actively participated in promoting the well being and interests of women. Mrs Li participated in writing the Commission’s first report on women’s safety entitled ‘Women’s Safety in Hong Kong: Eliminating Domestic Violence’, and takes much pride in serving as the Convenor of the Steering Committee of its Capacity Building Mileage Programme co-developed with the OUHK and Commercial Radio. She is currently a member of various public bodies, including the Disciplinary Committee Panel of the Social Workers Registration Board, the Disciplinary Panel A of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Board of Directors of the Surviving Spouses’ and Children’s Pensions Scheme, and the Lotteries Fund Advisory Committee.

    Dr Kim Mak, BBS, JP, is The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Corporate Affairs Executive Director, overseeing mainland affairs, public affairs, human resources and sustainability matters. Among his recent charitable commitments was a Wellness Programme he initiated in Tin Shui Wai to create a Volunteers and Training Centre and 4,000 job opportunities for the residents. He is responsible for the Jockey Club $1 billion Sichuan Reconstruction Programmes, and was instrumental in staging the 2008 Olympic equestrian event in Hong Kong. A Chartered Civil Engineer with a PhD from the University of Cambridge, Dr Mak has held many positions in overseas and local corporations. He has been extensively involved in public service, such as serving as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Society for the Aged, and has been selected for the Director of the Year Awards in two consecutive years.

    Other Council changes

    Prof. Alan Au of the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration has replaced Dr Charles Kwong, Associate Professor of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, as a Senate representative in the Council from June 2010. Mr Bunny Chan, SBS, JP, Ms Chiang Lai-yuen, Prof. Ching Pak-chung and Dr Susie Lum have been reappointed at the same time. All five have two-year terms. Students’ Union President Mr Leung Hin-ming took up his ex-officio position for one year from April 2010, in place of Mr Wong Kwun-lun. We also bade farewell to Mrs Eva Cheng, Ms Quince Chong and Dr Angus Chan, who had been members from 2003, 2004 and 2006, respectively.
