    President's message

When readers receive this issue of Openlink , it may be near or at the beginning of the Lunar New Year. May I wish you all a peaceful and fulfilling Year of the Pig.

In the past year the OUHK has made great strides in raising funds for the second phase of our campus, with the amount of donations already exceeding $100 million and more still coming in. The year also saw the number of our graduates soar to 6,700, taking the total number since our inception to a new high of 45,000. We were honoured by the presence of the Hon. Donald Tsang, HKSAR Chief Executive and OUHK Chancellor, at one of the sessions of the 15th Congregation. The graduates of a university are its ambassadors and the epitome of its culture and uniqueness. From the graduate stories in this issue, you can learn more about the nature of an OUHK education and how it has helped people achieve their goals.

As the OUHK becomes a choice university for secondary school leavers and sub-degree holders, half of our full-time students have enrolled in programmes from the School of Business and Administration. We hope the feature story on the programmes, students, graduates and teachers of the School will be useful for potential applicants.

Besides offering distance learning and full-time programmes, the OUHK has been tailor-making study programmes for different professions, such as nursing and in-flight service. We are most grateful that our Council member Mr Bunny Chan has donated $3.5 million to sponsor police officers to study our law enforcement and security management programmes, including a new part-time face-to-face certificate programme in March 2007.

In the year ahead, we shall further enhance our programme offerings and upload our first batch of e-courses for enrolment by people in Hong Kong and around the world. Please continue to give us your support, so that we can do even better in 2007.
