    Global Citizenship Programme

Two OUHK full-time students were among the outstanding representatives from local universities selected to join the Global Citizenship Programme organized by the Dragon Foundation this summer. BBA (Hons) in Business Management Year 1 student Cindy Yan, who went to Geneva on 6-13 June, said that she learned a lot from discussions on issues such as poverty reduction, gender imbalance, labour rights, sustainable energy and international communication. After meeting people from organizations such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, World Health Organization and Red Cross, she can now understand better their constraints in dealing with international issues. 'We can build a safer, better and more prosperous world for the next generation only if different parties are willing to make trade-offs during negotiations,' she explained. Cindy is glad to have gained valuable friendships and had the chance to watch the UEFA Euro 2008 football match with students from different countries. Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) Year 3 student Jossta Zhang was in New York on 20-27 June. 'We visited companies such as the financial communication giant Bloomberg and the advertising company BBDO to see how they apply innovation and creativity in their businesses. Although they target different markets, both have explored creative and innovative communication methods to convey their messages to clients,' she said. Jossta added that what impressed her most was this programme's capacity to inspire students to be open-minded towards new experiences and learn proactively from observation and interaction with others.
