  • Bachelor of Science with Honours in Environmental Science
    Introduction

    Environmental pollutions and climate changes are crucial challenges to the survival and welfare of human and other life forms. Graduates with knowledge and skills in sustainable development and green technology are urgently needed by governments, business corporations and green technology industries worldwide.

    The Bachelor of Science with Honours in Environmental Science is a two-year top-up honours degree programme.

    * Only Year 3 entry is available for this programme.

    Students will need to complete 85 credits of courses for the top-up honours degree.

    Entry Requirement


    Holders of a Higher Diploma, Associate Degree, or equivalent in relevant science disciplines, may apply to this programme.

     

    Aims

    This programme will adopt a natural science approach and it aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of theories, practices, research methods and skills in the field of environmental sciences and the application of these knowledge and skills in government, industrial and environmental conservation sectors.

    Summer Professional Training and Workplace Attachment

    Students will receive additional training in the summer term through a series of workshops, seminars, visits, and workplace attachment with the aim to develop students’ understanding on the nature, environment, culture, career opportunities, and the attributes and skill-sets needed in the various sectors in environmental sciences.

    Career prospects

    Graduates will find career opportunities in a broad range of positions in environmental protection and monitoring such as government environmental inspector, environmental consultants for environmental and infrastructure projects, executive and managerial positions in environmental impact assessment, environmental monitoring, environmental health and safety, and carbon auditing services. Graduates will also find career opportunities in the field of environmental conservation such as eco-tour services and various related non-government organisations.

    Further studies

    Graduates would be qualified for further postgraduate study (MSc, MPhil, and PhD) in environmental or related areas in any tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and overseas. MPhil and PhD positions are also available in the department.

    Student activities

    Students participated in environmental research in the Arctic Village (a) and Arctic (Svalbard Islands) (b).

    Students won 5 Awards in the “Challenge Cup — National Competition — Hong Kong Regional Final Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2017” and “The 15th Challenge Cup National Undergraduate Curricular Academic Science and Technology 2017”.

    Students won 19 awards in different local and international environmental project competitions in the past four years.
