  • Bachelor of Science with Honours in Life Sciences
    Introduction

    Life sciences is a fascinating subject that covers various disciplines in the biological sciences, including cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics, to study the phenomenon of life. Life sciences and biotechnology are also the key drivers of scientific advancement and economic growth. Governments and industries worldwide, including Hong Kong and China, thus have been continually and enthusiastically investing in life sciences and biotechnology, creating a sustainable demand in life sciences graduates.

    The Bachelor of Science with Honours in Life Sciences is a two-year top-up honours degree programme.

    * Only Year 3 entry is available for this programme.

    Students will need to complete 85 credits of courses for the top-up honours degree.

    Entry Requirement


    Holders of a Higher Diploma, Associate Degree, or equivalent in relevant science disciplines, may apply to this programme.

     

    Aims

    This programme aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the theories, practices, and research methodologies in life sciences and to prepare students to be a competent and successful practitioner in life sciences disciplines after graduation.

    Summer Professional Training and Workplace Attachment

    Students will receive additional training in the summer term through a series of workshops, seminars, visits, and workplace attachment with the aim to develop students’ understanding on the nature, environment, culture, career opportunities, and the attributes and skill-sets needed in the various sectors in life sciences.

    Career prospects

    Graduates will find career opportunities in a broad range of life sciences and related fields, including services and R&D positions in biomedical/clinical laboratories and biotechnology industries, executive positions in medical instrument and health product management, and managerial works in public/private biological and chemical organisations and institutes.

    Further studies

    Graduates would be qualified for further postgraduate study (MSc, MPhil, and PhD) in life sciences or related areas in any tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and overseas. MPhil and PhD positions are also available in the department.
