  • Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Global and China Studies
    Introduction

    The Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Global and China Studies is a 4-year programme offered by the School of Arts and Social Sciences.

    This programme is tailored for those who will have exclusive advantage in today’s competitive job market by becoming well-versed in the cutting edge of global affairs and Chinese international relations. Supported by academic training, internships, and service learning, the programme equips students with analytical tools and real-world experiences. It also provides them with in-depth, multi-faceted, critical understanding of the 21st century global politics, economy, and society reshaped and transformed by China’s growing presence on the world stage. The interaction between the world and China will be highlighted by the opportunities and risks found in the Belt and Road Initiative. Graduates are expected to enjoy advantageous career opportunities and benefits for professional development not only in Hong Kong, but also throughout mainland China, the Asia-Pacific, Eurasia and beyond with a China and/or international focus.

    Entry Requirement

     

    Aims

    (i) Achieve the competence and skills in the use of social sciences theories as an analytical tool in the larger context of social sciences studies;
    (ii) Cultivate an awareness of economic and political issues of China and its interaction with the world;
    (iii) Develop the ability to apply social sciences theories to the explanation and analysis of China and global issues;
    (iv) Master various social sciences theories and concepts to analyze China and its interaction with the world;
    (v) Broaden their worldview and empower them to envision their own future and the world’s future from a higher standing point.

     

    Career prospects

    Graduates will be professionally trained in but not limited to the following positions:

    (i) Public sector / NGO officer
    (ii) Business sector executive
    (iii) Media (publishing, journalism, and advertising) executive
    (iv) Global and China policy researcher

     

    Further studies

    Graduates of this programme may proceed to postgraduate studies in Hong Kong, mainland China, and / or overseas. Some relevant postgraduate programmes are listed as follows:

    (i) Master of Global China Studies - offered by the School of Humanities and Social Science of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
    (ii) Master of Arts in China Studies – offered by Department of Public Policy, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, The City University of Hong Kong
    (iii) Master of Science in Contemporary Chinese Studies - offered jointly by the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies, University of Oxford
    (iv) Master of Arts in Chinese Studies – offered by SOAS University of London
    (v) Master of Social Science Education in Greater China Studies – offered by Department of Asian and Policy Studies of the Education University of Hong Kong
    (vi) Master of Social Sciences in Global and Hong Kong Studies – offered by Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of the Education University of Hong Kong

    Graduates will also find this programme an excellent departure point for advanced-level studies in Politics and International Relations, Legal Studies, Business Studies, and other Social Science studies that have a global and / or China focus.
