  • Bachelor of Education with Honours in Early Childhood Education (Leadership and Special Educational Needs)

    The Bachelor of Education with Honours in Early Childhood Education (Leadership and Special Educational Needs) is a four-year degree programme. Applicants can apply for admission to Year 1 or Senior year.

    * Only Year 3 entry is available for this programme.

    Entry Requirement

    Applicants should be fluent in Cantonese and are required to attend an admission interview.


    The programme aims to develop students into competent early childhood educators. Through the courses within the programme, it intends to

      enhance students’ understanding of the theories and practice of early childhood education;
      develop students’ understanding of psychology of child development, early learning and the teaching process in early childhood education settings,
      cultivate students’ capacity in curriculum planning, design, implementation and evaluation;
      enhance students’ understanding of the diverse needs of children and of the ways to cater for various type of special educational needs;
      foster students’ capability in providing effective management and leadership in early childhood education institutions; and
      enhance students’ capacity for continuing professional development through reflective practice and their ability to become independent lifelong learners.

    Career prospects

    Graduates can serve as kindergarten teachers in local kindergartens or childcare workers in childcare centres. They may also seek employment in other early childhood related organizations such as playgroups, music centres and art galleries. 

    Further studies

    Graduates may further they studies by enrolling the the Master of Education (Early Childhood Education) offered by OUHK .

    Programme recognition

    Graduates are fully qualified to register with Social Welfare Department as child care worker and child care supervisor.

    Graduates are fully qualified to register with Education Bureau as kindergarten teachers and meet the academic requirements to serve as kindergarten principals.

    The Social Service Department of Hong Kong SAR Government will consider the graduates of the programme to have received the required training for Special Childcare Workers.
