    Full-time Programmes Graduation Ceremony

    More than 1,000 students in the Higher Diploma, Diploma, Pre-Associate Degree and Yi-Jin Diploma programmes received their certificates at the 2013/2014 Full-time Programmes Graduation Ceremony held at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium on 17 October.

    At the Ceremony, Vice-President Prof. Danny Wong advised students to treasure every single opportunity to learn, and to strive for higher qualifications for a better future. Director Prof. Lui Yu-hon encouraged students to maintain a thirst for knowledge regardless of age. Ms Lai Wan-yu of the Pre-Associate Degree in Nursing Studies programme and Mr Chau Wai-kin of the Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education shared their learning experiences and delivered their vote of thanks on behalf of all graduates.

    Staff representatives also presented a painting to Prof. Lui, who is going to leave the Institute. They thanked him for his 16 years of dedicated service and for the achievement of making the Institute a lifelong learning partner for all those aspiring to learn.


    Fashion graduate progresses to final round of international competition

    Fashion programme graduate Ms Cher Chan has become one of 10 finalists in the ‘EcoChic Design Award International Competition’. She will compete for the championship with her collection, which will be showcased at Hong Kong Fashion Week in January 2015.

    Organized by Redress, a non-profit-making organization, the competition aims to promote design with minimal textile waste, and to bring together young talents in Asia and Europe who share the same belief. During her study at LiPACE, Ms Chan won various awards including winner of the SDC International Design Competition (Hong Kong region) in 2012.


    Updates on professional programmes
    Professional Diploma in Renal Nursing
    LiPACE has collaborated with Integrated Dialysis Facilities (HK) Limited, Hong Kong Baptist Hospital and Lions Kidney Educational Centre & Research Foundation to offer the Professional Certificate in Renal Nursing programme since 2010. From January 2015, the programme will be offered at diploma level with the aim of meeting the increasing demand for both renal services and professional training in renal nursing. In addition to classroom learning, students are able to participate in practicum at renal centres.
    Professional Diploma in Drama Education
    The Professional Certificate in Stage Performance programme has been jointly presented by LiPACE and the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (HKRep) since 2012. Teaching staff are composed of experienced members and tutors of the HKRep. Students of the course have the opportunity to give a public performance upon graduation. From March 2015 onwards, the programme will be re-organized as the Professional Diploma in Drama Education. New elements on drama education and opportunities to practice at HKRep will be added, offering training for teachers or professionals who wish to introduce drama in their teaching.
    Professional Diploma in Façade Engineering and Management
    Since 2011, LiPACE has partnered with the Hong Kong Façade Association (HKFA) to offer the Professional Diploma in Façade Engineering and Management programme. This year, the programme has been restructured with the four courses covering specialist areas in Façade Design and Construction, Structural Engineering, Materials and Environment, and Construction Safety and Quality Supervision. The programme now caters better to the specific needs of the industry.

    LiPACE encourages participation in voluntary services

    LiPACE has officially registered as a Volunteer Movement Participating Organization with the Social Welfare Department. Students are encouraged to actively participate in volunteering activities to show their care and love for people in need. As part of the movement, participation in activities organized by the Institute or by other organizations will be recorded and recognized. On 29 September, two ‘Dialogue Experience --- Silence Workshop’ sessions were held. Guided by professional tutors who are hearing-impaired, students were required to perform group tasks in complete silence during the 2-hour workshop. The session enabled them to break through these constraints and finish tasks using creativity, effective communication and teamwork.
