Honorary doctor analyzes the future prospects of higher education in China

Prof. Zhong Binglin, this year’s Honorary Doctor of Letters of the OUHK, gave a talk on the current situation and future prospects of higher education in mainland China on 9 December on campus. As President of the Chinese Society of Education, Prof. Zhong is an active contributor in the mainland’s educational and teaching reforms. In his speech, he analyzed the issues that higher institutions in mainland China are now painstakingly exploring. These issues include how to change educational concepts and adjust the model for nurturing students, and in what ways can the university and public examination systems be reformed.

Talk on Hong Kong-Macao relations with the Pearl River Delta (PRD)

Prof. Yeung Yue-man, honorary professor of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, gave a talk on ‘Hong Kong-Macao Relations with the PRD: Three Decades of Success and Future Prospects’ on 21 November. In his speech, Prof. Yeung highlighted the roles of Hong Kong and Macao as catalysts in China’s openness and process of reform since 1980. He said the close links between Hong Kong-Macao and the PRD have been critical to the region and to China as a whole in their successful transformation and spectacular economic growth. Since their respective handovers, the two places have continued to play these unique and vital roles within the ‘one country, two systems’ framework.
