OUHK high-level delegation visits Fujian Province

Led by President Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong, a seven-member delegation paid a visit to Fujian Province from 16 to 18 September. The other delegates were Vice President Prof. Danny Wong, Associate Vice President Prof. Ip Yiu-keung, Director of Public Affairs Mr Stephen Ng, Prof. Chung Siu-leung from the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, Executive Coordinator of President’s Office Ms Jackie Au and Senior Manager of the Public Affairs Unit Ms Rosanne Yau. They attended alumni activities, visited Xiamen University and Fuzhou University, and also met with senior officials of the Fujian Provincial Education Department.

The OUHK has been partnering with the Fuguang Foundation to offer business administration programmes at postgraduate level in Fujian Province since 1997. With the approval of the Fujian Provincial Government, distance learning postgraduate business administration programmes are available. To date, the programme has more than 1,800 graduates, among them are senior management of state-owned or private enterprises as well as government officials. To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the OUHK, the Fuguang Foundation hosted banquets in Xiamen and Fuzhou, each of which was attended by 300 alumni members from the province.

The delegation also visited Xiamen University and Fuzhou University to discuss strengthening student exchange activities and academic research, as well as the development of new programmes. The delegation also met with the Secretary of the Education Work Committee of CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and senior officials of the International Cooperation Office of the Fujian Provincial Education Department to exchange views on current collaboration.

Mainland students admitted to full-time programmes

An orientation event for students from mainland China was held on 5 September. This year, 47 mainland students were admitted into full-time programmes, while another ten students from the Fujian Commercial College embarked on their fourth year of study at the OUHK. They are the first batch of students under the ‘3+1 scheme’ launched by the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, in which mainland students who have completed their first three years of their study have the opportunity to study with the OUHK in their fourth year.
