    Twenty-third Congregation

Over 6,000 graduates received their awards from the OUHK at its congregation ceremony held on 8 December, bringing the total number of OUHK graduates to well over 90,000. Among the fresh graduates, about 1,900 were full-time students. Roughly 52% received undergraduate degrees and nearly 15% received postgraduate awards. The Congregation was presided over by the OUHK Pro-Chancellor Dr Charles Lee.

In his congregation address, President Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to build self-confidence and develop independent thinking. He urged them to learn to appreciate the strengths of others. He said that in the workplace, the ingredients for success are a pragmatic and resolute attitude, stamina and persistence. Prof. Wong also gave a quick review on the development of Hong Kong higher education since the education reform in 2000 and proposed that the Government review the funding ratio for self-financing institutions to facilitate their long-term development.
