    25th Anniversary Banquet

Over 600 students, alumni, staff, tutors and friends of the community enjoyed a fabulous evening at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 16 November to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the University.

Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR, was invited to officiate at the 25th Anniversary Banquet. Mrs Lam was the third Chief Secretary for Administration to pay a visit to the OUHK this year after Dr Anson Chan and Mr Stephen Lam Sui-lung. She cut the anniversary cake and made a toast, joined by Pro-Chancellor Dr Charles Lee Yeh-kwong, Council Chairman Dr Eddy C Fong, Deputy Chairman Mr Michael Wong Yick-kam, Treasurer Mr Peter Wan Kam-to, 25th Anniversary Steering Committee Chairman Dr Vincent Woo Wing-fai, President Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong and Vice President Prof. Danny Wong. The banquet also gathered most of the former Council Chairmen and Presidents with the gracious presence of Dr Cheng Hon-kwan, Dr Peter Wong Hong-yuen, Dr Charles Lee, Dato Prof. Gajaraj Dhanarajan, Prof. Tam Sheung-wai and Prof. John C Y Leong, and was truly a night to remember.

A lucky draw with fantastic prizes and several performances livened up the evening. First up was a breathtaking drum performance, followed by a talent show by students and alumni. Twin brothers Chan Chun-hin and Chan Chun-hay demonstrated their world-class yo-yo tricks and alumnus Ho Chun-chiu gave a saxophone solo. There was also a captivating fashion show showcasing pieces designed by ten graduates of the Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Fashion Design, a programme jointly organized by the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education, the Clothing Industry Training Authority and Middlesex University in the UK. A sand painting performance brought the banquet to a perfect close with a very touching live presentation illustrating the story of a young man striving forward courageously against rough tides. President Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong was invited to give a final touch by writing ‘Pace your race for knowledge, sprint to your dreams’ in Chinese calligraphy with sand, encouraging staff and students to make the OUHK a university which shapes people’s lives and help them fly high.
