The University explores collaboration opportunities on research

The University welcomed delegations from two Asian institutes this summer and explored opportunities for collaborative research. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain led a group of representatives from the Bangladesh Open University to visit the OUHK on 9 June, while Dr Tanida Phatisena, Director of Research and Development Institute of Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University, Thailand, and her colleagues visited the OUHK on 20 June. During their meetings with our Associate Vice-President Prof. Ip Yiu-keung, Director of the University Research Centre Dr Li Kam-cheong and other senior staff members, the members from the two delegations gained a better understanding of research done at the OUHK, and showed a keen interest in exploring possibilities for collaboration on joint research projects.

Visit by Korea National Open University

On 27 June, a delegation from Korea National Open University led by its President Prof. Nam Chul Cho visited the OUHK to exchange ideas and practices for open education. Deputy Director of the Educational Technology and Publishing Unit Mrs Linda Chow and Senior Instructional Designer Dr Henry Choi gave an introduction to the OUHK’s learning facilities and a demonstration of our online and mobile apps, which was followed by a campus tour to the library, laboratories and AV production centre. The delegation was especially impressed by the parallel development of our distance learning and full-time programmes.

OU staff attend academic conference in Penang

Director of the Educational Technology and Publishing Unit Dr Yuen Kin-sun and Director of the University Research Centre Dr Li Kam-cheong attended the Second Regional Symposium on Open Educational Resources, held on 24–27 June in Penang, Malaysia. They presented two papers at the symposium, entitled ‘How do Hong Kong teachers like to use open textbooks?’ and ‘Readiness for open educational resources: A study of Hong Kong’ respectively. The Symposium was organized by the Wawasan Open University and OUHK was one of the equal partners.
