Outstanding full-time students win HSBC Scholarship

Full-time Statistical Analysis student Law Hiu-man and Accounting student Wong Sun-wing were selected for the prestigious HSBC Scholarship and each of them received an award of $50,000. Law Hiu-man attended the HSBC Scholars Day on 16 July and conveyed her gratitude to the donor via a creative drawing performance on the spot.


Accounting student receives CPA Australia Outstanding Student of the Year 2014 award

Full-time Accounting student Chan May-yan received the award of CPA Australia Outstanding Student of the Year 2014. She attended the award presentation ceremony held on 29 August along with the nine awardees from other local institutions.


Students from the School of Science and Technology excel in open competitions

Full-time Electronic and Computer Engineering student Suen Po-kwong won the Second Prize and Best Practicability Award in the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Macau Student Project Competition with his project to develop a reasonably accurate detection algorithm, which makes possible the production of wrist-worn fall detectors at low cost.
Percy Law Ka-yee, a student in the Master’s Degree programme in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management, won the First Place Award in the Student Papers Competition (in the category of ‘Postgraduate Accredited Programmes’) organized by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Hong Kong) with his paper on the application of High Visibility Clothing in the workplace of Hong Kong.
Two teams of OUHK full-time Computing and Web Technologies students distinguished themselves among the 17 other teams from local tertiary institutions by winning the Silver and Bronze prizes in the KINECT Application Development Contest organized by Microsoft Hong Kong, InfoCan and Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.


Creative arts students shine in Nat Geo Awards 2014

Three groups of students from the creative arts programmes shined in the ‘Nat Geo Awards 2014’ organized by the National Geographic Channel Hong Kong. These students were shortlisted as finalists while Ma Ka-hei, a Year 4 student from the Creative Writing and Film Arts programme, won the Best Writing Award in the Video Documentary Competition (Tertiary Institution Category) with his entry ‘The Chinese Grocery Store in Sai Ying Pun.’ The finalists’ photos and documentaries will be showcased on the National Geographic Channel, as well as publicly exhibited in Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui.


Nursing student awarded second runner-up at joint school orienteering competition

Full-time Nursing student Kan Ming-pui and Computing student Fung Kwong-chiu participated in the 2013/2014 Joint School Orienteering Championships and awarded second runner-up in the women’s division and came in eighth in the men’s division of the tertiary institution category respectively. Ming-pui said that the award was a pleasant surprise to her as she almost lost her way during the race. She made it by calming down and finally completed the race with good results.


Education and English Studies student selected for Poland exchange programme

Education and English studies double degree student Amanda Lee Man-lok was shortlisted for the International Youth Exchange Programme jointly organized by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Commission on Youth. She joined 11 other outstanding young people from Hong Kong to travel to Poland on 13 to 23 July. They attended lessons with local students, visited scenic spots and historical sites, and even had the opportunity to attend the graduation ceremony of the local students. Amanda was deeply impressed by her visit to the Warsaw Uprising Museum, showcasing the history of Poland through a substantial number of pictures, audio-visual presentations, ruins and debris of buildings, replicas of weapons, etc., all of which provide a testimonial to the horror of war.
